I have to rechrome the window cranks on my 56 Plymouth. I assume I will have to drill out the pin holding the winder on the arm. If I do what do you suggest to attach it back to the arm? Thanks, Bill.

Have you tried to release the clip? They release from the back side.

I dont mean to take the handles off the door. On the window handle it is 2 pieces, the arm and the revolving part that is held on the arm by a pressed pin. In order to rechrome them it has to be apart.

I've never done a FL handle but on some others I have done the following:

Since the diameter of the shank in the "revolving part" (I call it the knob) is unknown, drill into the backside on center as deep as you dare to go with a small drill like a #40 and then progressively increase the size of the drill and drill in about an 1/8" or so until the head of the pin comes off leaving the shank in the knob. At this point you will know the diameter of the shank and can choose a thread that is appropriate for that diameter...then drill in and tap the shank centering on the original pilot hole. (8-32 or 10-32 threads usually work best)

Once the parts come back from the plating shop you can reattach the knob to the handle with a screw/washer that just bottoms out in the tapped hole without binding the knob. Once the correct length screw is determined I use red Loc-Tite on it.

If you have not found a solution to the problem you may want to contact Paul's Chrome Plating. They took apart and reassembled the wiper bezels for me when they did the plating.
