Let's get this out of the way - it was freakin hot. Almost too hot to enjoy anything.

I think as a collective event it didn't live up to its official hype. Maybe that's partly due to the heat.

I was very impressed with the sheer number of vehicles but if I could go a month or so without seeing new Challengers and Chargers in weird colors that would suit me just fine.

I was disappointed with the number of FL cars there - I really had my hopes up. I get it, there are a lot of factors involved with this type of thing, and what was there was not disappointing at all....I just wish there were more.

I was impressed with the swap meet. I think if we could wait until Carlisle each year to by stuff the internet folks may go out of business. (I got the ads below and some other car knick-knack things.)

A tip of the hat to the tent organizers. No small task, and under less than great conditions. I did what I could to patronize FL.

Since I've got a mostly 58 Belvy inbound, I stopped at the CCC for some info about the car - SHE'S NOT A CHRISTINE!
I chatted them up a bit and had some engine and tranny questions so they said "Go find that guy with the fumanchu beard in the FL tent."

So I did and the fumanchu guy ended up being Dukeboy...I'll let him tell you his real name if he wants. Anyway, I explained a few things to him and he looked at me like I was crazy because I've got the mechanical inclination of a glazed donut. So he took me for a walk.

Over an hour later - remember the heat - and stops at several cars and at least one place in the swap meet to look at a tranny, I was well equipped to look for a few things in my Belvy that I would not have known to look for before.

Thanks much DB for the education and your time. Even though you refused there, there's a dinner or drink in your future from me.

Overall it was fun, worth the time and the drive (140 miles one way). Had it been cooler, I would have stayed longer.

See you next year and thanks.

The collective hype spun on this forum for the Carlisle show has a purpose. It is the positive ongoing effort to encourage everyone who reads this forum to get off their a** for one week out of the year by attending the show. This year a lot of familar faces were missing. The C of C management has made it as easy as it possible for us to come together - it our Yankee responsibility to get there. We, not the show management, determine the quality of the social experience we have by sharing our cars and experience in person at Carlisle.

Driving a 55 year old car in the searing heat for 300 miles can be a little rough on us old farts, but it's what we do to have the enjoyment and comaradary, meet new friends and share our cars and knowledge. I'll do it till I can't anymore and then I'll find someone to bring me! Dick

I'd like to thank everyone that brought out their Forward Look cars to Carlisle. I can list on one hand the FL cars I've ever seen in person so it was a very rewarding experience for me to see these cars and experience Carlisle in person. And thanks to Dave for setting up the tent to serve as a home base. I didn't have time to meet more than a handful or fellow FL ers but next time plan on hanging out in the shade.

Last year, after a lot of searching I purchased a '61 4dr Newport sedan. This was my first trip to Carlise in many years. A lot of bel5758's observations were mine as well. My wife and I arrived around 4:00 PM on Friday. We paid $20 for a couple of hours. We walked the first row of parts and I got a nice turn signal canceler at a great price but we were suffering in the heat. We even stuck to the tar as we walked. The next day started cooler but by 11:00 was hot again. Over 100. We checked out the cars looking for the fins. On the way, the newer cars and trucks were nice but we were anxious for fins. We spotted the forward look section and found some cool looking cars but no 61's. I was a bit dissapointed. Then, the 300 section next door had 2 '61 300's. We checked out the corral and saw little for forward look (but the triplet Phoenixs looked awesome). We gave up early and figured to hit the parts hard on Sunday. There was a wild storm Saturday night and Sunday it was much cooler. So we paid $20 for the third time and entered the field. It didn't take long to see that over half the vendors were gone. The car field was decimated as well. That bummed me a bit. I talked to one vendor and he was really surprised we had paid full price.

I feel like I spent a fair chunk of money to get there-stay at a hotel for 2 nights-and eat. I also bought teeshirts and parts. I think the Carlisle Event people could have reduced admission after 4:00 and also reduced admission for lack of vendors and cars. For what it is worth I complained to Carlisle Events as I felt they were a bit too greedy.

I still loved the whole thing and will be there next year. Let's hope it will be cooler!!!

It's only about $40 to enter your car for the Entire weekend. I'm sure they also have weekend spectator package deals.

Thanks for the advice.

Sadly my car's engine is in pieces. They had an event long pass for $30 but we could only make it for three days.

I have my fingers crossed I can drive my car to next years!

Last thing you want to do is pay to get in at around 4:00 PM...I'd have either left earlier, or just waited till the next day...And You are correct in assuming Carlisle won't care about the Greediness. They make killer money. Your $20.oo is a drop in the bucket.

61 chrysler man...ive been going to carlisle for quite a few years now and finally figured out the way to do it is buy a vendor spot. gets you and the misses in all days, thats 10 bucks each for as many times as you want to go in, saves 10 bucks aday parking, bring a couple of parts to sell (that translates to junk you have at home you will never use) you can easily make your vendor spot cash back, you have a place to sit down, a depot for the crap you buy, a cooler full of cold drinks. mark your stuff, put an honor box there or let your nieghbor take care of it and enjoy yourself. it really is crazy to park a half mile away especially if you buy somthing heavy.

I've heard the Pennsylvania Tax Collector is vigilant about Vendors having a Penn. Tax ID Number

fill the form out for one event in pa a year only (its in your vendor packet) leave it on your dash in case someone asks for it. i've vended there forty times and never have been asked. they don't look for people with random used parts who are obviously not in business. if you show up with 100 sets of prebent exhaust systems and try to say you do this once a year you will have a problem.
