Location: The Mile High City | Orville Easton was the original owner of the 1958 De Soto Firedome convertible and Mr. and Mrs. Jones were the second owners. On the way to the Colorado MoPar show last weekend, I stopped by to see the Joneses. I don't visit as often as I should, but I think they were both very happy to see their old car. Mr. Jones did most of the restoration work himself and Mrs. Jones helped with the interior. Mrs. Jones is somewhat confined to a wheelchair now and I wanted to get a picture of her next to the car, but she didn't want to get too near it, she thought she might cry. They are good folks! They gave me a hand-made shirt and sweater that match the De Soto - very, very nice! I talked to their daughter and son-in-law too. I was a (lot) late to the show, but some things are just worth it. I have a picture of Orville's son with the car, but one of these days, I will get a photo of Orville too - it's been a long, long time since I have seen Orville! Alas, I don't think either one of them would approve of that hood ornament! Location: The Mile High City | Hi, Jerry - The De Soto may be in Grand Lake that weekend - maybe. If it is, I still have a few treasures to share - in the form of '58 Dodges. Either way, I think I will be in town and we can get together and tell tall tales of everything forwardlook!

Location: The Mile High City | Thanks, Ray! Sometimes cars can connect people. It seems rare to me to own a car when you actually know the previous owners - I value that connection with the Jones' and especially the Eastons (we have Grand Lake in common too). I have asked the Eastons if they have any old photos of Orville and the De Soto, maybe one day I will get a photo I can post to the website.

Location: The Mile High City | I drove the De Soto out to the Chatfield Reservoir area to see Mr. Jones last weekend. Unfortunately, Mrs. Jones passed September 30 of last year, shortly after the visit shown at the top of the thread. Mrs. Jones hand-sewed the interior of the De Soto. I think it looks a lot like the original interior, but it has her touch - I wouldn't have it any other way! Mr. Jones was very happy to see his old car again. A couple of nice passerby stopped to see the car too. Mr. Jones treated us all to a tour of his garage. He has a early Ford speedster, a 1923(?) Peerless speedster, a 1953(?) Cadillac, and a late 40's pick-up truck in the garage along with a huge collection of automobilia and an outstanding collection of pedal cars. The De Soto, Ford, Peerless, and all of the pedal cars were restored/hand built by Mr. Jones. All of the interiors were done by Mrs. Jones. The Ford's leather seats were still glove soft. Location: The Mile High City | I went to the service for Ivan Richard Calvin Jones last Friday. I brought the De Soto and John Tuthill brought his '48 Chrysler convertible. In addition, there was a 1956 Oldsmobile in attendance. It was a very nice service and they even had some pictures of Ivan's cars in the slideshow. The little funeral home was packed to the brim. We all went to Ft. Logan where Mr. Jones had full military honors and then a reception at Hudson Gardens. It was a really beautiful service. I met some really wonderful people and I talked with Mr. Jones' family and expressed my condolences. Mr. Jones has a really wonderful family and it was a pleasure to meet each of them! One of Mr. Jones' grandsons gave an eulogy and mentioned that the De Soto was his (the grandsons') favorite car. I don't think my presence there was worth much, but I think the friends and family of Mr. Jones really enjoyed seeing the car again and it added to the ceremony and the memorial. Nuts! I guess now that Mr. Easton and Mr. Jones have left their worries behind, it is truly Mr. Sutherland's De Soto now.
