Hey, Roger, Jan already has offers on the table for several thousands of square feet of heated shop space at my place and several others so you will have to get in line!! I do have a few projects left that could use his energy and magic. Greg

Elite Veteran Posts: 673 Location: Malung, SWEDEN | Thanks for all the comments, appreciated! As you can see, it is full steam in the workshop even if the "artist" look tired today. We know the Dodge chassis and engine factory appearance but have chosen to make certain deviations.
Enjoy!

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | Incredible; but the power steering gearbox should be 'finished' in its basic shiny surface; rather like your bell housing looks, above. (Is that a 1957 P/S gear box?) The bell housing got painted in Engine-Silver, too. The tail shaft section may be in natural finish. However, the entire engine/trannie looks to have been painted, here; again, note the shiny finish on the P/S gear box. If your car was built (well-before) 6/6/57, its suspension parts could appear in black finish. See Paul William's 58 Regal Lancer frame for correct chassis finishing. If you're going to do 'it'.....do it as well as Paul does (throwing down the gauntlet). Expert Posts: 4034 Location: Connecticut | What the TSB is saying is that the parts will rust whether they are sprayed or not (probably because the metal is not primed prior to top coating). So mechanics at the time shouldn't worry about it. Of course, if you're doing a restoration, the last thing you want is a rusty undercarriage. So what I've done for the parts mentioned is paint them with POR-15, Bill Hirsh Miracle Paint or similar. Then when the paint tacks up, top coat with either semi-gloss black or cast blast paint, which simulates a bare metal look, yet won't rust because of the coating underneath. Ron

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | Of course, you can MAKE your "bare-metal" parts look like that, by finishing them with a product that merely makes them APPEAR to be non-finished. Didn't think that this was "Breaking News" to restorers.

Elite Veteran Posts: 827 Location: tailFinland | I am just repairing the transmission of G. It looks like it was painted black so was the bell housing. Non of those has hardly any paint left after over 50 years. Surface paint do not stick to aluminium and transmission is also totally covered with surface rust. I m gonna paint them black and thats it, do not worry about how they look after another 53 years :). I´ll be then 105

He used to own a real red/white CRL 2-dr HT D500 (basket case, but real). It is a small MoPar world. I can sell you my spare steering box, cheap, but, it needs a Lares/Steer-&-Gear overhaul, as it leaks badly. PLEEZE....install a correct P/S gearbox in your restoration.

Location: Parts Unknown | Gents, could you do a favor for me ? I started to work on the DeSoto tonight and ran into a snag .... I would like to see photos of the inside of the rear wheel tubs at the forward and rear ends to show the contour left hanging below the floor and trunk weld points. Mine have been so badly repaired in earlier "fixes that they are no longer correct. I remember these having more shape and some material hanging below the weld points. Thanks
