1961 Desoto 4 Door - $2700 (Tehachapi)

Selling a 1961 Desoto 4 door for 2700.00 OBO. The car doesn't run so it will need to be towed, selling with bill of sale only car hasn't been registered for about 15 years. There is some damage in the trunk area by the tail light and the trunk has some bad rust but besides that it's solid. The car is 98% complete

I always wonder about the VIN numbers on these '61s. A previous thread mentions that the last De Soto to roll off the line was a blue two-door, but any time I look at a '61, I wonder how close was this car to the very end of De Soto's 32 year run. Any '61 is close!

The '61's have become my new favorite Forwardlook cars and Desoto is tops. But with missing parts how in the world do you restore something like this? You could spend a lifetime searching for the missing door moulding and the "T" in the upper grill and whatever else is missing.

It does seem like it would be worth spending more to get a better car. I agree with you, Chris - the styling on these is fantastic; interior, exterior - everything! There is a person in the National De Soto Club who has a 1961 "convertible". That would be fun to see.

There is also a restored red -61 DeSoto convertible in Sweden. Have seen it several times at car shows some 10 years ago but not lately, probably still in Sweden I guess. Have pictures somewhere but cannot find them now.

Thanks, Wayne! I'd never seen a picture of it before. Really cool!
