Some of you may recall I bought this car in 2010, and she was a basketcase as you can see in the pics...well, I've been working at it every winter and now finally, she's ready for primer! Running a '59 Custom Royal 361/TF, updated rear end, Disc brakes, oh and I made a small...styling change...muahahaha!! sidesho_bob1961 - 2013-02-12 9:49 AM What year dash have you decided to put in your creation..........I vote for the 60 Chrysler astro globe....... That is too funny...would you believe I seriously considered a '60-62 Chrysler dash?!? I have one, but decided to not go overboard there, and I really like the Plymouth dash, with it's space age styling.

Thanks Jeff, yes it will be interesting to see if non-Forward Look people pick up on it. It ended up being lots of work modifying that front to accept the '60 body, neither of the door/fender, hood/cowl gaps were right, had to redo all them. Purely fluke though, the '58 bumper bolted right on in perfect alignment. Tomorrow is the BIG DAY, I finally paint! Edited by 58dodgeregent 2013-02-11 11:25 PM

Thanks Brian, it's going to be a fun car. I decided to go with the 58 front, was a tough decision but prefer it a little bit. Course that meant I had to build the center lower valence almost from scratch, make a 58 grille out of two 57's, and made headlight mounts, using 59 Dodge headlight rings. Guess I'm a glutton for punishment!

Now in colour! 2011 Dodge Toxic orange, otherwise known as Mango Tango Pearl, with lots of gold pearl added to the clearcoat, my own concoction. Thanks guys, yes finally having color, the car takes a sudden and massive leap forward, towards seeming feasable to be drivable soon...at least that's what I tell myself John, you are right, the double-pearl in it changes the color in the sun, but it looks even better I think!

Expert 5K+ Posts: 5139 Location: cornpatch county, Southwest IOA | Seems that most people paint there cars early in the build. Probably is an incentive -big leap thing. I would worry about all the scratches and nicks that are bound to happen before the build is done. Last two things I will do is paint and then interior............................MO

Expert Posts: 1730 Location: Michigan | Jeff, I don't have one of these vehicles so I am not sure I can see the modifications you mentioned at the start of the thread. What did you change? Was it the front fenders? Hard to tell because you don't have a front view 'before' picture posted. Just curious as you've done a nice job with that body work and those of us ignorant of the subtlies of these years may never notice them. Edited by Beltran 2013-02-16 2:12 PM

Hehe, Thanks Mick for filling Beltran in. It must not look too disjointed if it isn't obvious! Thanks for the compliment on my bodywork, it's not an easy car to do bodywork on, let alone to spray...especially the inside of those gargantuan fins, it's impossible to get your spray gun correctly in alignment to that area, just have to kind of shoot it in from a distance!

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8443 Location: Perth Australia | I have been haveing the same fun with the contours of the rear panels on my dodge, I think I got enough on the underside of the round bits where the tail light goes (didnt rub through it when I cut it back. When its my plymouths turn, I will let you know which one was easier lol To MO My dodge is far from complete yet, but had to paint it to help with the inspiration side of things. I get so bored of doing bodywork, how people do it for a living is totally beyond me. Just getting paint on it just makes the mind think that your finally getting somewhere on it (to me anyway)

Mick, I agree, bodywork is so incredibly boring! My 60 Desoto was no walk in the park to paint either, had to spray inside of fins with gun upside down!

Beltran - 2013-02-18 8:28 PM Well now it makes sense heh. Was it just that easy? Did the front clip just bolt on? Haha, I wish! No, the door to fender gaps were different curvature, as was hood to cowl, the hood hinges didn't line up, the rad support needed new mounts (57 was a single mount in middle, '60 -up was above frame rails). I ended up using the '60 fenderwells, they only needed slight modification. The front bumper bolted right on, which is bizarre since I went from a framed 57 to a unibody 60!! It was all worth it, I never would have been happy with that '60 front end (no offense, '60 owners!), and those parts would've needed a lot of work anyway. These '57 fenders were junk though, I rebuilt the entire front of them, eyebrows to bumper, inside and out. The lower part that meets the rocker had to be reformed (it was rotted out anyway) to mate up with the rocker, I think it turned out good. I did get my body work completed on the main shell and got it into epoxy primer. Then I did my front femders and now the doors are at the body shop. In between all that I got the engine and driveline all done. .........................MOI have been haveing the same fun with the contours of the rear panels on my dodge, I think I got enough on the underside of the round bits where the tail light goes (didnt rub through it when I cut it back. It occurred to me, 57 Plymouth was unusual in that it didn't have a hood ornament...such a typical '50's thing, from all makes.

More progress! Now you guys are really going to think I'm crazy, I downgraded the car trim-wise to a Belvedere Love the way the bullets compliment the fins, more so than the oversized Fury medallions, I think.
