Expert Posts: 3155 Location: NY & VT | I actually prefer the '58 Olds combo of Heather (pale purple non-metallic) for the body with same year Olds Mountain Haze Metallic, (a subtle darker purple-gray) on the roof and side insert, a combination sometimes, but rarely, seen on a few '58 Olds 98s... no it isn't exactly a shrinking violet combination, but neither is the '57/8 DeSoto a subtle car design, even if they do simultaneously have a certain smooth elegance generally lacking at GM (59 Buick might be the sole exception); in fact a case can be made that all late '50s car designs border on kitsch, some to a greater degree than others, (and in 59 Cadillac went over that border), so why not, in Harley Earl's words: "Go all the way, then back off." The late '50s zeitgeist was excess. A slightly toned down look would be a Mountain Haze body with White accent. Edited by firedome 2013-02-27 11:41 AM

Extreme Veteran Posts: 520 Location: Colorado Springs, Colorado | Doctor DeSoto - 2013-02-25 11:13 PM Muscatel is quite brown in appearance .... at least after it has weathered a bit. Maybe it was more red when new ? It's pretty red, just dark, I'll post up the bit I polished on the firesweep. Expert Posts: 3967 Location: DFW, TX | Here is an example of Dusty Orange with Cloud White roof and sweep. Outstanding color combination. I believe it was Firesweep only. Expert 5K+ Posts: 9666 Location: So. Cal | I'm probably going to paint my Spanish Gold/ White '58 Firedome to this color scheme. Adventurer gold with Black. But use blackwall tires & dog dishes with it instead. Expert 5K+ Posts: 9903 Location: Lower Mainland BC | . A lot of the 57 Desoto colour combos are shown in the 57 Desoto brochure: https://www.xr793.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/1957-DeSoto.pdf And many of those ideas came from the 56 Desoto brochure: https://classiccarcatalogue.com/DE_SOTO_1956.html
