Actually I do not have a job anymore. I January I passed the road test of the government - so I could ride a truck (big rig). I'm on the way to get the trailer. But to find a job in Switzerland is almost impossible.

Good luck to everybody here!

Dieter, truly sorry to read this! Try to keep your car, won't cost you much if you don't use it. You'll find a work, it's a matter of time. Hold out and keep up the spirit.

Hope you find work soon, and try to hold on to your car as long as possible, they are easy to sell, but hard to replace, best of luck in the job search.

Good luck, Dieter!

You'll come through this new 'adventure' just fine.

Where are you going to be driving your rig?

Economy will get back, i agree... keep your car save money and you will get back to it. I started my 1957 Imperial in 1992, lot of people want to buy the car over the years, glad i still have it.

Big thank you for all of you folk for your encouragement. I'm more or less always at the border of crying. It's because I've got the tendency to describe me worse than I am (it's a toll of almost four years mobbed, the third time in my live). And with this characteristic it's very difficult. But at least I know where my weak spots are - a hard work begins...

Good luck for everybody

Here there is a big shortage of truck drivers, seems to be one of the few segments where you see any hiring.

I hope you get a job soon, things are bound to improve for you.

Dieter, Hang in there man! I suppose the storing of your car is part of the problem, I sure hope not as they don't like sittin outside for long periods of time.

John, on the driver shortage....that's because of all the crap the gov't keeps shoving down our throats. For a job that's calssified as "unskilled labor" we sure have to jump through a lot of hoops in the name of '$afety. After a year of retirement from being an owner operator I sure don't miss all that part of the job. I miss the road but notb the crap!

I fully agree, Dave. Truckers used to wear the nickname 'Knights of the road' as they were always willing to help others, but once deregulated and all the additional paperwork, it's rare to see an owner/operator. Same thing in my business, and many others.

I am wishing you much success in finding a good paying job. Try your best to keep your Chrysler. Selling it will take away an incentive to keep on keeping on. I have had to sell things that I treasure, and always regretted it.. Best of luck to you......................MO

Dieter, I have been out of work almost a year and the market for a service advisor in my area has been dismal. I've had two managers not hire me for being too experienced and making more in the past 12yrs than what they could offer me initially. I guess they are afraid I would leave at the first good paying job.
Nevertheless one thing my wife and I decided was no matter how deep the valley gets, we wouldn't sell the 56 Dodge, and now, thank God, we see the end in sight. As everyone else has said, hang on to it, if at all humanly possible and you will not regret it. But you know your situation better than any of us. Hoping and praying you find good employment soon.

Put it in storage until you can start on it again. If you need to sell some items to clean out the closet on ebay to make some money. I did when I was unemployed. I also did surveys online to make some extra money. I used that money to pay my bills . Do not sell the car I agree with the response above me you will regret it. I also hope you find something soon.

I knew you were an all-right dude. I have my 56 Windsor and drive a 1994 Freightliner sleeper 53' to and from Eugene Monday thru Friday with weekends off. I love the trucking life but look forward to my time at home. Your heart is with your New Yorker so you can't sell it. Be patient, and all will work out, brother.

Thank you all for your responses. I have good news. I got a contract with a transportation company. The first working day will be June 3rd this year. My truck will be a tractor with a trailer.
Actually I'm working temporarily as a driver of a 8x4 concrete mixer truck with a big 8.5 m3 drum.

Happy Motoring!

Dieter

The uncertainty of unemployment always sucks. For me, it is a paradigm set in being unable
to pay the bills and really scraping bottom. I guess part of the college education is as much what
you get at school as it is learning to have drive to never be poor again ?

I've never sunk that low since, but the same fear tends to grip me when I find myself out of work
and without a prospect.

Glad you got something rolling and hope you always keep your eyes on the horizon for making
your situation better.

On August 8th 2013 2:45h p.m. I fell down from the cantilever lift (platform) at the rear of the trailer. I got a laceration at the forehead and an almost broken SL-Band in my right hand side hand. At August 27th I got a surgery at my hand. Now I'm wearing a full plaster supporting my wrist (keeping my wrist stable). Good news: I could move all fingers and the sensitivity at the tips of my fingers are still working. But I have to wear the plaster until October 5th. Until that date I couldn't work at my Chrysler.
I hope I'll recover quick - I would like to work, but I shouldn't.

Happy Motoring!

Big thank you to you, Wizard an MOPAR-TO-YA. Actually I got a 100% unable to work attestation until Sept. 17th. Then there'll be a check at the doctor who did the surgery. Then I'll see if I'll get another unable to work attestation (I assume yes) for few days or until Oct. 5th or next meeting.
Actually I do not know who's driving "my" truck and does my job - a temporary driver, a mate or the boss.

Happy Motoring!

Dieter

BTW: on Sunday I sold my truck. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhw6y3bnJSU it sounds great (a 318 poly engine with a NP 420 four speed manual transmission)

Thanks a lot for all your responses. Last Sunday my Dad (74 years old) died and I was at the funeral in Austria (Villach) for three days.
I hope I could disassemble the pump of the power steering to replace all O rings (burned). There's a company, producing and selling all kind of O rings near by to buy the correct O rings. Few weeks earlier I brought the radiator to an old radiator plumper. He brazed the outlet of the radiator again. Now at least the radiator is sealed again and doesn't leak anymore as the steering pump does.

Happy Motoring!

Dieter

BTW I lost the job once more - my boss hired another driver with more experience. So I'll have to find a new job again....

My Friends

First of all a wish a Happy New Year to all of you (and your relatives too, of course). I wish this new year will bring good luck to all your endeavors for longer than just this new year and of course - good health.

I know it was an up and down during the last two years. Starting at January 28th I started temporary as a night driver at Post Logistic as a base driver. I was taking many traktors with trailer, Trucks with two axle trailers  to the loading ramp. It was a big learning field, but I succeeded with trucks and trailers backwards to the ramp. Starting in December 2013 I got in contract with a personal hunter. Finally starting at April 14th I startet a career on my primary job again (electro engineer /w diploma). I'm still working for this company. I got good friends there - some from a former hiring earlier than 2007. The work is very interesting, I could learn much as well.

Last summer personally I turned to 50 years old (born 1964). Because I got a really long way to my job every day - I'm quite tired ever evening. So I decided to set an emergency call here at this forum. Good luck I got a really good friend during our cooperation - I brought my Chrysler to him - if I remember correct - end of September. I'm happy knowing my Chrysler is in ingenious hands.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otWLDkKC-VY

For you my friends I was seeking for a song. I hope it will comfort you during all days as it does to me as well.

Kind regards

Dieter

Hey, Dieter; keep the 'faith', and MoPar to ya!

Lost my dad in 2002; orphaned at 62 Y.O.

Not surprisingly, I'm not 'madly' buying any/all FWDLk related 'collectables' that I find, any longer.

Thanks a lot Neil. My dad died at the age of 74 November 3rd 2013 in Austria. My mum's still alive at an age of 74 as well. I hope I could keep my 56NY even though my dream car is now a different car. I assume you know, when a dream becomes fulfilled it's not a dream anymore. As well I saw few cars I let buying them by others because the dream car is another car. For that I have to save money for a loooong time.

Happy Motoring!

Now I got my dream car. But again I lost the job. I was so happy to get an engineers job again starting at April 14th 2014. But after three months there was a reorganisation and another became my boss. My former cooworker could build a kingdom (because he was the only guy working at the software of the machine - except an external who came by from time to time). He's apparently the friend of the boss and another coworker (only talking bad about others). The boss and the other coworker, both were working at this software too - many years back. Both left the software job.

The young guy and the boss apparently didn't want me as a coworker and redundance from the beginning. I started to make many faults (even though I knew it better - how it is correct) and the rejection was a logical consequence. The young made elephants out of flies when it was an advantage for him and the boss was never talking with me (I don't know if he feared that most time I know an answer and ask back).

For sure I'm going to find a job again. It's just a matter of time.

Take care,

Dieter

Dieter, to keep you going you could look at truck driving work in the UK. Apparently there's a major shortage of qualified, experienced drivers. It sounds like contract work, so you could do it for a while to keep some income coming.

Hi Ian

Thank you very much for your proposal. As a truck driver I'm not that experienced - I'm afraid. Instead I'm keen to make my dream since the childhood true: car mechanic with a training qualification and a certificate of proficiency, in German (Automechatroniker EFZ).

Happy Motoring!

Dieter

Look my friends

Actually I'm just crying. I came to the imagination that my Lord would step in front of me to ask me what would I choose if I only would have only two options: a) the Letter project or b) your life.

I'm neither rich (to afford a rotten 300F convertible to restore to a concours state) nor do I have a big income. So I would answer to my Lord - I'm choosing my project. I do not care if I would die after the first test ride when my project has finished.

Yours sincerely

Dieter

At the Monday, Nov. 7th I had a small accident with an old high jack. Since Tuesday evening I'm weasring an underarm in plaster, because I broke the ell near the wrist. So I could/should not work until Dec. 21st. I'm waiting keen to get rid of the cast (plaster). In the meantime there is no progress at my project.

Happy Restoring!

Dieter

Thank you very much. Yes, I'm still owning my Beast (56 NY ht 2d). But right now it's out of service - winter season.

I found a wonderful song at youtube. I couldn't stop listening. Because this song strenghten my faith to our Lord Jesus Christ... Amen

The lyrics

Gather round children, got a story to tell you about a man who lived long ago
Now he was a leaper and he needed a healing but he didn't know where to go
So the prophet told Naaman to go to chilly Jordan and there old Naaman would find
That after seven times into the muddy water God delivered right on time

God was in time for the children of Israel to cross the mighty Red Sea
He was on time when the walls of Jericho fell at Joshua's feet
Every time I feel discouraged, don't have to wonder where He'll be
God's been in time, on time, every time for me

Now there stood little David with a sling in his hand right before the giant so tall (so tall)
And it was unlikely then to all of those men, surely Goliath would fall
And when the three Hebrew boys wouldn't bow down to Baal, the king said they crossed the line And they were thrown in the flame and then the fourth man came and God delivered right on time

God was in time for the children of Israel to cross the mighty Red Sea
He was on time when the walls of Jericho fell at Joshua's feet
Every time I feel discouraged, don't have to wonder where He'll be
God's been in time, on time, every time for me, for me for me

Yes my God was in time for the children of Israel to cross the mighty Red Sea
He was on time when the walls of Jericho fell at Joshua's feet
Every time I feel discouraged, don't have to wonder where He'll be
God's been in time, on time, every time
Every time God's been right on time
God's been in time, on time, every time for me, for me for me
