Went to a Mopar show today and met a guy with a 1959 DeSoto Firedome 4-door hardtop with a removable roof. Leave it on and it looks pretty normal, take it off and it's a faux convertible. Interesting vehicle. Don't know what he's asking for it, but I have a contact number if someone wants it. Car is located in south New Mexico.

Neat! Was that the MoPar Fest at Rio Rancho? That is a neat idea for a four-door hardtop. I wonder how much the top weighs on that bad boy! With the back glass in, that has to be pretty hefty. Do you have any photos of the top off?

The whole top lifts right off. For the first half of the show, he had it laying behind the car. By the time I got back around with my camera, it was back on the car. I didn't see what the process of removing it requires or how heavy it is.

I am curious how nicely finished it was in the way it kept the whole top from
lifting off at speed ? This could be a real botch job, or someone showing off some
serious skills.

Hopefully the chassis was reinforced, as the roof is a structural component in these cars.

Interesting idea, nonetheless.
