This discussion started on the General Discussion board, but it should continue on this

Also, continuing the serious discussion, here, might avoid some of the un-related humor that's posted on that other
board.

So, in that regard, here is the 1959 Silver Challenger Press Kit information:

Not trying to be difficukt here, but why on earth does a general thread about Silver Challengers belong here in the Members Rides section and not in the General FL Discussion section where it was started?
It is just that, general discussion about something FL related, we are not talking about one specific car that a member owns, also known as a members ride..

I do appreciate your effort Neil, just curious as to why you mean this topic should be moved from where I think it rightfully belongs.

Because, Neil suggested branching out a part here similar to that one guy who made the Dartline thread. Also trying to find possible Silver-Challenger owners out there, in this wide sea of FL owners.

Also, on another note- the SC has 4 horizontal chrome lines, one above and one below the two arrows on the front grill. Was that also available as a trim option for Dodge's at the time?

The "Silver Challengers" belongs on this message board like the discussions on the Chrysler "Dartlines",
"Saratogas", Dodge "Regal Lancers", the "CHRY/PLY/DOD Info & Pics" threads (...and how many other specific marques' discussions?)...do.

If for no other reason(s), FINDING a discussion on or regarding a certain car model is easier to do, here.

The mini-boards deal with specific mechanical issues and problems; this board deals with the cars, themselves.

An SC is going to be a basic-basic Coronet. The two "added" goodies - whitewalls and standard
full-face wheel covers - will be long gone on all but the true low mileage "survivor". Chances are
it would have gotten a repaint after 50 years too. I would not expect an SC to stand out as an SC
without some closer inspection when one finds a very stripped-out looking Coronet. The lack of any
special badges (does an SC wear "Coronet" badges ???) leaves the detective with most telltale clues
being wear items that won't be present after a typical service life.

I thought it said it had special badging on the front side fenders. I can see something in the photo of the SC that looks different from the other 59.

======================================================

To be clear, the SC got this "crown" badge on the fender and all-silver paint (according to the promo
paper). That "crown" is not unique to the SC though. It was used on other cars, as Neil mentions. My
question is: Were there no Coronet badges, so this model simply had "DODGE" lettering and nothing else
except the badges and silver paint to let all know it was a Silver Challenger ?

The 'special badging' was the trunk emblem being reused on the fenders. Royal, Custom Royal sedans and wagons did the same thing. There were no Coronet badges on the SC.

No difference in the VIN# either? So all of these limited models are now probably restored to different specs or rusted away... A repaint and shaving the badges would easily disguise one.

No diff in vin numbers.Only clue would be paint code. But considering that all SCs were 2dr sedans, it's unlikely many were restored.

Dalton, can you post up a pic of your car's Paint/Trim data plate?

Its "Silver Metallic Vinyl and Black Fabric" TRM code is not shown with/in the standard Coronet interior schemes, so,
it must have a special coding for that motif.

"Silver Iridescent" paint was available on 1959 Dodges (code 'L').

On its Broadcast Sheet and IBM cards there should be a special option code for the Silver Challenger, if only for the inclusion
of that 'Custom Royal' fender emblem, and for carpeting, too.

Have you checked up/behind the glove box (or, even, under the carpeting, for a folded-up) Broadcast Sheet?

On the GEN DISC thread on the SC's (as they will be called, now...), there was a question about the 326 c.i. engines in them.

In 1959, Dodge installed a bored out ("PLY") Poly head 318c.i. engine in the Coronets, as the standard V/8 engine; this was a 1-year engine, and, that engine should be fairly bullet proof in reliability.

The trim code for SCs was 128. I still have the build sheet from my first 59 Dodge, which was a SC.

I think it was Neil's idea to restart this thread under member's rides for easier
