Expert Posts: 2598 Location: Upplands Väsby, Sweden | Sure, this lovely renovated Firesweep (have set similar renovated by a friend and became very fine, he renovated Ford 1960) So you're going to fix this renovation Personally I do not when you take a 2dr/ht body and moving all conv parts. Does not feel right, I do not real conv There are those here in Sweden. I know of many who are not genuine (Ok with fake but they should not be called genuine conv but rebuilt cloned) I'd would rather own a genuine Firesweep orginal conv than a clonad Top off the line conv It is my opinion Took this picture of one of 2 FL cars that would be conv in the next life. X is still missing on the frame. Then you have to have a big wallet to afford to buy the "real conv." It's like making up a pig = procedure, a pig Edited by Windsor59 2013-08-24 4:02 PM (DSCN8989.JPG) Attachments ---------------- DSCN8989.JPG (64KB - 194 downloads)

Expert Posts: 2996 Location: Sept. 1958 | But Joakim. If you buy donor car and remove panels from that and weld onto Conv it is no clone. I guess leaving the conv cowl into the conv frame while work is being done and trying to save as much original sheet metal off conv. Restoration sometimes, many times with 57-59 Mopar Conv needs so much metal work replacement.

Expert Posts: 2598 Location: Upplands Väsby, Sweden | You are right in what you say about many original genuine need conv plate. But what I want is when the car switches id I know it is not easy to know where to draw the line on how much metal can be replaced and weld in X in the frame, (I do not like when they found an ID from a conv and make a n 2dr/ht a conv should I say) I have many examples of cars that I know if they have taken a 2dr/ht body and moved across all major conv parts and sheet and transferred id mm. I would not like to pay much money for such a car. Safe-half or less, my opinion. For others, it does not matter if it's done so, and pay and are happy that they have a conv I'll be sure to get crappy for this but I will not reveal any cars that I know of that is said to be genuine as an example of my claim Maybe we should have a separate thread on this? on what is real or unreal? Let the 2dr/ht cars have become 2dr/ht and otherwise made up Edited by Windsor59 2013-08-24 4:53 PM

Expert Posts: 2996 Location: Sept. 1958 | I agree with you Joakim on this, it is important to keep original Conv frame and to keep as much original parts possible. I would hate to buy a convertible and have it had it based on a hardtop. Your right when it switches ownership and no one knows restoration history of it, that's no good. I would like to see restoration photos if buying a finished car. Maybe we need another thread for this and not use Wayne's.

And, its 361 c.i. engine was the 1958 D500 and the 1962 Polara 500/Sport Fury engines. Once properly restored, this ride would be jaw dropping, with its side spear (what-ever) and its tail lights. It needed every c.c./gauge of its convertible rocker panel sheetmetal's thickness. I would upgrade its single exhaust/2-bbl to "Power Pack" status. Wayne, I hope that you buy a copy of this car's IBM Build Card.

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | "Many-a-sedan" has been sacrificed to restore a convertible, but a low #3 (rough, but working) car would greatly simplify this car's restoration project's costs and protocols. Your right, I like the shorter nose better. I believe the way I will end up doing this car, is to make it back to orginal, but if I ordered it, with the options I would of in the day. That make sense? I already purchased a power swivel seat for it. I think either blue, green or gold NOT RED. I want to thank everyone for the education thus far also. The car will be driven also. For those of you that have seen my dad's 60 Phoenix conv, this car will follow that same path as for the restoration result Now I just need to get a 58 Chevy wagon out of my garage so this can get start Edited by w.weiland 2013-08-24 8:49 PM

Expert Posts: 3156 Location: NY & VT | That's B-5 I believe, just like the '70 F3 vert I recently sold. There's plenty of folks in this country that would take this on, and we have several examples right here! Sure hope you get it done Wayne, it well deserves it. I still kick myself in the butt for turning down a #3 solid and running black '59 Adventurer for $5k right here in Binghamton around 1985, it was at Bob Vitali's used car lot, still in business...I told Alan Ralston about it, he flew in, drove it home, still has it. And yes, I was holding out for a '58 Adv 'vert, and never found one. Lesson: sometimes it's best to go with what you can find rather than chase a dream that never happens. Expert Posts: 1510 Location: Lordstown, Ohio | Ok folks. My hopes in the next year is to start on this car, BUT......I am going to throw this out there for some to chew on. I will trade/swap for a 57-58 Desoto Dodge conv of equal condition has to be complete with title and tags. This car isn't that bad when you start looking deeper into it. As I said hopes within next 14 months I will be starting on it unless.........

Expert Posts: 3156 Location: NY & VT | No offense, just sayin' and more power to you if you can Wayne, but I don't think many people would jump on the opportunity to swap a 57/8 DeS-Dodge convert for the same in an equal condition '59 DeSoto, but you never know, can't blame a man for trying and it only takes one! Expert Posts: 4109 Location: Connecticut | I agree with powerflite. I would take this car over a 57/8, and probably over the senior model Desotos. If you have the skills of Big M, it would be cool to see this guy come back from the dead. Ron
