Hello All:

Just picked up a '56 Custom Royal Lance and wanted to post the fender tag for decode. Don't know much about the car yet as I just purchased it yesterday. Has power seat, windows, brakes, and some of the jiffy wash system (no bag, but the pump, foot trigger, and sprayers are on the car). The steering wheel center is from a power steering car, but the steering box is manual.

I will be ordering the broadcast sheet from Chrysler Historical shortly.

Any information is appreciated. And if anything is undecipherable on the tag let me know and I can fill in the blanks.

Thanks,

Dave

Thanks Ty. Maybe this can become a project for us to take the lead on. I just got my registration from the DMV a couple of weeks ago so I haven't had the chance to place my order with the Chrysler Museum, but I plan on doing it in the next month or so. I do have a copy of the paint codes for our cars, and I know there are some older threads with some 56 Dodge information that D500 Neil posted. One of my big questions right now is what year my car was built. It is dated coded for September 20th, but is that 1955 or 1956? I don't know when Chrysler stopped one model years production and began the next. Right now I assume that my car was an early 1956 model produced in 1955, but I would love somebody to confirm that.

And Ty, I think I asked in another thread, but where are you located in CA?

-Dave

Hi Dave,

Im in Temecula, CA. I see you close by. I get alot of my chrome/trim done in Santa Ana.

Well if it gives you an idea...my build card says mine was built 8/7/1956 and shipped 9/11/1956

1956 Dodge P/T's are always hard to decypher, because there were several versions of them, in their various assembly
plants.

There were/are, even, several versions of the IBM cards, too, which greatly complicates confirming
the engine/power equipment on them, and at least one version of the IBM cards was shared/carried-over from
1955 Dodges, which really further complicates their decyphering.

I've seen one other car like yours, in my files---might even BE yours; anyway 836 is the V/8 series chassis; and for the
Custom Royal 2-door hardtop models.

The PNT scheme is Crown Yellow on top, with Iridescent Charcoal across the middle "Saddle" area, and with Sapphire White
on its lower area.

The interior is the common black & white scheme, and your car was of very early build, on or around 9/20/55, built in
Los Angeles.

The L.A.-built 1956 Dodge Custom Royal VIN's started with 426081001 and ended with 42611518.

Detroit built 1956 CRL's have VINS from 349721001 - 35167854.

It will be nice to see your car's IBM card-copy, even tho it may well be nigh-on impossible to read, clearly; I have many
of them, so, seeing different areas on them is possible, from having such a large population to choose from.

All of your car's neat-info will appear on it.

I had thought that your car might have the :"Easy Lift Power Windows", but that option is code 363, and you've got an "8" under
WL.

We should be able to figure out your B code (5) when we get your IBM card; '5' is an unusual code, unlike 1-3/4 are.

@Dave,

Yeah for sure!!

Its been about a 3 year restore for me so far and its at the upholstery shop as we speak. When all said and done it will appear original except for the paint colors, some slight engine compart mod for reliability, and a few tricks but all hidden

Thanks you so much for the information d500neil!!!! There are some oddities on the car that I am still trying to figure out. The front windows are power, but the rears are not . . . and all of the evidence (the rubber door boots for the wires, etc.) makes me believe that the car left the factory with at least the front windows being power. The switches, however, are cheap replacements.

And TY, you've got me very interested. Keep me posted on your progress!

..That's probably what your "8" refers to, under WL.

In 57, you could get power windows in just the front (because of the 2-door club coupes, with non roll-down rear windows).

But, your car obviously has roll-down windows in the rear.

Really looking Forward to seeing that IBM card!

The '56 CRL two door I owned years ago had power windows in the doors and crank windows in the quarters. Check the factory accessory booklet. Power windows were available for two or four windows.

Yup, but where is that, and what is that, option code on the IBM cards?

My IBM card arrived yesterday. I sent a copy over to D500Neil for his records and opinions, but figured I would post it here to help out other 56 Dodge owners.
