Elite Veteran Posts: 1053 Location: Ny | Well, here I am back with a new project for the fall. We decided to change up my daughter's Desoto wagon and refit it with some new fins so that we could extend the wagon tub, and include a trunk to stash her things. She decided to go with 57 Plymouth this time, and we found a pair of red/black (and brushed pink) fins for her to rock out. She had a blast picking out a set, and couldn't wait to get home and scrub the lichens off of it. I'll post more updates as we get closer to completing it. Hershey is slowly nearing! Hoping to work on it a little more this evening when the kids get to bed. Hershey will be upon us before we know it! Elite Veteran Posts: 1053 Location: Ny | The saga continues... We've disassembled the interior and removed the fin's from the wagon tub. Now it's time to hack the tub in half so we can extend it about 6 inches or so. It'll give her plenty of leg room for all these growth spurts. She had fun helping take apart the wagon. Let's hope we can get the new one together in the next two weeks! Time is running out! Jeff extended the tub about 6 inches, and anvil'd out the areas that had started to mushroom from the suspension. Managed to fit LED's into one side and wire them up to work, and then squared up the quarters to check for level ride height. Today we plan to wire up the other side and get things welded together. We've got about another week to get it all together including the interior. Looks like we might be burning the midnight oil. | ||

Elite Veteran Posts: 1053 Location: Ny | Put some more hours into the wagon... she lights up now! We used amber's in the reverse lights, and they are really bright! All that's left is to mate the quarters with interior panels and fasten them to the tub of the wagon. Then I'll be able to template some door panels for it, and sew up a seat cover. And Jeff will also have to fabricate the trunk and lid for it. Elite Veteran Posts: 1053 Location: Ny | Weekend is drawing near, and so is Hershey. Jeff has made a lot more progress on the wagon, including fabricating a trunk and lid and installing the sides of the quarters to affix them to the wagon tub. He even fashioned a miniature bumper. I'll let the photos do the talking. Elite Veteran Posts: 1053 Location: Ny | Well, the Hershey show has come and gone with much success. We finished both wagons on schedule, and they were a huge hit at the show. The girls really enjoyed riding around in them, and were a sort of celebrity. The flashing taillights were also helpful to caution traffic when we made the trek back down the road towards the hotel. Here are a few more photos that I didn't share at the end of the build including some action shots of the wagons at Hershey, and some pics of the interior that I had sewn for it. A lot of people were interested in buying the wagons, and the pink wagon even had a few offers made. Perhaps there's a future for these things (much to the kids' chagrin-- they kind of like being unique).
