Here are the Canadian colour charts I have for 1957, 1958 and 1959. These are for all cars built in Canada by Chrysler.

Hi
Nice charts...boy I laid a bunch of those colours down in the seventies in RM Super-Max , Sanddrift beige always made me laugh...AKA Buckskin Beige same formula and Verrry close to Sunshine yellow. I never kept track of the cars I did.... I should have, especially a White and Red '58 Mayfair sedan and a Midnight Blue and White Sport Suburban. RM is now BASF .... Synthetic enamels were nice paints to apply!

Sunshine Yellow is a strange colour.

My car was originally Willow Green Metallic and Sunshine Yellow, a spring special combination. I'll eventually have it repainted in the original colours. I tried to do a mockup of what it would look like using photoshop, but I think my yellow is less subtle than Sunshine Yellow really is.

Hi
That is one pretty car! You're right about the Sunshine yellow it is indeed a subtle colour...under certain light levels it begins to have a beige tinge hence the similarity in formulas to Sanddrift beige. I'm painting my Custom Suburban Sunshine yellow with a black roof ,Originally it had a Spanish gold roof but I prefere the Black.
I encountered another colour with the same strange characteristics as Sunshine Yellow on '74 to '77 Full size Chryslers and that was Golden Fawn screwy colour to analyse but yet an easy colour to look at...soft on the eyes...

Ditzler / PPG / CPI sheets are great for determining what colours are Canadian and which are American in origin. American numbers are five digits in length, except for whites (8000) and blacks (9000). All Canadian numbers are four digits in length. Whites were generally presented as W8000. Check Winter (Dover) White on the 1959 sheet. It is W8131. The U.S. Plymouth used 8131 without the "W" and called it Iceburg White in 1958. Sand Dune White (80624) is an American colour, 1957 Plymouth, and is actually a yellow.

The Canadian 1959 colours were Elizabeth Blue (1329) and Burmese Green Metallic (4297). Canadian 1959 truck colours were Marlin Blue (1249) and Cuban Red (7077). The carry-over truck colours are listed on the back of the 1959 CPI sheet. Before the war Chrysler of Canada used some U.S. GM colours - greens from 1937-39 Buicks, tans from 1939 Chevrolet and early 1940's Oldsmobile maroons.

Aztec Copper Metallic (21569) was used on the US 1958 Dodge as Copper Metallic. Bamboo Yellow (80940) is US 1959 Plymouth Daffodil Yellow.

The 1958 Sunshine Yellow is an interesting colour. It is an American colour (5 digits - 80062) but is a very old colour - dates back to 1940-42 era. And it was used on U.S. 1959 Chryslers - Yellow Mist.

Ditzler adopted the 5 digit codes during WW II, and started with the 1942 models to renumber. Ditzler worked back to 1939 and issued sheets in 1943-44 with the new numbers, 1949-40 and 1941-42. The 1941-42 sheets were reiussed in 1946 as 1941-1942-1946 since most manufacturers simply used their 1942 colours for 1946. And Chrysler in the US used most of them through to 1948. In Canada the Chrysler colours were new for 1946 and about half lasted to 1948. Have not tracked down what vehicle first used 80062, and it may have been on a truck.

Should also point out that Chrysler of Canada generally used the same colours on all their cars. Sometimes they used the same colours with different names. In 1937 Plymouth used a Plymouth Blue, and it was offered on Dodges as Dodge Blue, on DeSotos as DeSoto Blue and on Chryslers as Chrysler Blue.

For Chrysler of Canada, the last truly unique Canadian car colour was used in 1965 - Highland Red, 7218. Canadian-built Dodge and Fargo trucks used Canadian shades for a couple more years.

Sorry this thread was from before my first time on the forum. Since then (Oct. 2016) I have been concentrating on 56 Dodges but have been expanding to 55 and 56 Plymouths in hopes that I can learn something about 56 LA-built Dodges (which seem to have used 55/56 Plymouth IBM cards and maybe order codes). Along that journey, I found a few Canadian 56 Plodges and this 56 Canadian Plymouth, Dodge, Desoto and Chrysler colour chart.
