Expert Posts: 2264 Location: McComb, Mississippi | For my polara, I'm looking for a quiet stock replacement. Everywhere I call only has a direct fit for the dual exhaust ram cars. Any sources? I'd be interested in one of those sono 4x jobs that I've heard about from time to time as well.

Expert Posts: 1506 Location: Colo Spgs | Hola Christian The base Polara Engine is a 361 and the largest Engine Displacement Option is a 383. They both used the same part number of Exhaust Manifolds be they was with a 2 bbl or a four bbl. A Quality Muffler that can be always be used is NAPA's 21-400 . The Dual Exhaust Piping inlet size is the same as your Exhaust Manifolds Diameter. The unit is made per OEM Data and spec's --- by Walker. To install this unit to your car is a No Brainer to any local Neighbor Hood Muffler Shop. Rodger & Gabby COS

Expert Posts: 1506 Location: Colo Spgs | Hola Christain If you looked at the http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx/Muffler-Qu... you now know to a Dyno your Single Tail Pipe Exhaust System is equal to a higher priced Dual Exhaust. Any place that is local to you have a single same size in & out diam Resonator to add to the unit. Even with A Single Tail Pipe --- you'll have a Dual Exh performing Assembly. **** If a vehicle is using one of The "A Series Engine's" The Napa #22-599 Muffler is The Correct Size. **** Rodger & Gabby COS

Expert Posts: 2631 Location: Minor Hill, TN | I have glass pack mufflers on my current '61 but later on down the road I plan to put turbo Mufflers on it. My dad took my other '61 to some exhaust shop in Alabama and had that done. I do not know the name of it .

Expert Posts: 1527 Location: ZH, Switzerland | Why not try Waldrons exhaust? I bought a complete exhaust system from Waldrons for my 1956 Chrysler New Yorker. The appearance is stock alike. I've chosen Impostor mufflers. This exhaust system is sounding great. It's always a pleasure to listen the sound at around 62 to 65 mph or during acceleration. Not too lound inside - just correct for such a powerful cruiser like my New Yorker. http://waldronexhaust.com/cart/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=61_36_126&sort=20a&page=2&zenid=eb83e39ac2bc61f8d9e86026160b618b If I were you I would ask if they sell the mufflers separate.
Happy Motoring! Dieter

Extreme Veteran Posts: 397 Location: Milano, Italy | Hi all, I was just passing by, Then I stopped for curiosity. I checked the NAPA link to the part 22-599 (thank you Rodger) and I wonder what is the difference between "resonator" and "quiet muffler". Napa put them under the same catalog number.....

Expert Posts: 1506 Location: Colo Spgs | ... Antonio and Christian The difference between "resonator/ glass pack" and "quiet muffler" many times is a Marketing Name. Go to a local to your Muffler Selling Store and look for a Small Diameter Muffler ( not oval or square ) that has the same Inlet and Outlet sized Exhaust Pipe Size as you car. Cut and insert next to the area near the out-side frame near your Gas Tank. ****** In the era of these cars --- only a vehicle making an "Repair Appointment" at a Muffler Shop could be heard. The Hear Me Exhaust Sound was after Road Runner's and GTX's were sold. ****** Rodger & Gabby Colo Spgs

Expert Posts: 1493 Location: Jamaica Plain, MA | Dynos aside, back pressure aside, etc, I use 2 of the SONO-X type with no crossover and 2 glass packs, with the mufflers about under the back of the front seat, and the glass pack resonators ourboard of the gas tank, right before the bumper-- the exhaust tips clamp directly to the glass packs. Power and ease of installation are considerations, but nothing sounds better than a MoPar V8 with true dual exhausts. It kinda softly grumbles at idle, and it doesn't ruin your hearing.

Expert Posts: 1231 Location: York County, PA | You are right Rodger, most cars in the late 50's early 60's didn't make a lot of noise. I PA in the 60's, if you had glass-pac's on your car you got pulled over by the police. At a local car show a fella pulled in with a cheby that was so loud the driver and his passenger wore ear plugs. Today, because these cars are considered "Antique" that they get away with it. Catch ya'll later.

Expert Posts: 1231 Location: York County, PA | My 1960 Dodge Dart Phoenix was a 318 High Performance engine from the factory and it had a very noticeable rumble to it's sound. I was drag racing it and was beating stock Cheby 350's. Catch ya'll later.
