Subject: Neoprene Rear Main Seal 1956 Dodge 315

This picture is of the rear main cap on a 1956 Dodge 315 with the neoprene seal installed. Do the small rubber pieces get trimmed off or are they designed to seal the corners of the pan gasket? Thanks!

As far as I know they're supposed to help seal the corner, I've always left them on & added a dab of RTV.
