I dont think anyone has done a thread on the actual history/aplications of these setups yet?

But what engines did they come from, were they only available on performance models, what cars and devisions were they used in, ect?

This is stemming from a discussion about a fury in Bloomfield that has a 318 and not a 331 and I thught it would be interesting to see specs and all the other stuff that went along with the poly 2x4

Best I can find the only Poly with a 2X4 was the '57 318, but this seems odd where the intake is cheaper to buy than the 4 bl

It is my understanding that the 2x4 manifold was a dealer installed option on the 56 Fury 303 and was installed from the factory only on the 57-58 Fury 318s.

Lads --
Back in those days all kinds of things were possible. Officially, the 2X4V/303 CID was only available for the '56 Fury, but as the late George Gobel said, "Strange things are happening." Dealers were more accommodating then and they worked miracles with "options" using what I have heard as being the "999 Code" or "Special Order" -- which resulted in a "Twilight Blue" 300F in 1960 or "Uncle Tom" McCahill's 300F without the "Toilet Seat" rear deck. Another interesting fact: in the 1959 model year, a 2X4V carb set-up was supposed to be a "dealer-installed option" on the 361 CID Plymouth, but the NHRA wouldn't buy off on that.

PS, 58 -- Those '57 and '58 Furys were the best looking of them all -- far better than my Big-Tailed Beast though I think my '65 Sport Fury: Medium Red Metatalic [matching interior], and 426S/365 HP, 4-speed] was pretty close. Personally, I wouldn't give 10 (Repeat, 10!) '57 Bellaire 2-dr verts for any '57 or '58 Fury!

Hi
The Dual quad setup and the camshaft etc. was available as a dealer installed package and could have been ordered directly from the factory parts division. The Carbs used were the small base aluminum throttle plate WCFB Carters and the manifold was redrilled to reflect this. The cast iron base carbs were still exclusive to the Factory installed Dual Quad 318's on the '57 and '58 Furies and on any "Factory special order " '57 PLymouth as the Dual Fury V-800 318 was available to all model lines of '57 Plymouth . Please see the excerpts from the Plymouth Product information news dated June 1957. A bulletin was released by the Sales Division Dated June 18 1956 Announcing availability of the Dealer Installed Dual Four barrel package for installation on the 277 Hyfire and the 303 Fury . The Factory Retail price for the Engine Package as per the bulletin was $243.45

Great info!
One of the stories I've heard is that if any '56 300B's would have hiccupped at Daytona any one of the Furys there would have passed it!

That is great info

Being sold out of the parts division might account for why there are a lot of them still about

I dont think I have seen those air cleaners though?

Wow!

I had absolutely no idea that Chrysler made this available. As ttotired mentioned, those are very different looking air cleaners. I've never seen those air cleaners before, ever. It would be interesting to find a '57 Plaza with a 277 and this factory mod lurking under the hood.....

Ok... I'm babbling...

LOL....well that clears it up. I'm not too familiar with the 6 cylinder, including displacement.... it was that "218" displacement that threw me for a loop!
