The OE a/c unit was mounted in the trunk under the parcel shelf. The dual carbs are likely from a 300B or C/392 and the air cleaners are definitely aftermarket hot rod stuff. Unless I'm missing something in the pictures, I don't see any sign of this car having been pink previously. Agree that it needs everything, but not having to do rust repair is a definite plus.

Regular Posts: 75 Location: Sarpsborg, Norway | A car that needs a lot of work, but looks like a great start for a high $$ restoration. I like the color combo it have now, but somebody did a complete color change to the car back in time, it even looks like they did it twice. No dual AC, just the factory installed in the trunk. No 300 B or C carbs, but the intake could be from a 300. I wonder why they put it on, the only change would be worse mileage and where never an option on the Imperial. Really like the wire wheels and Torqueflite. Looks like the pot metal are in good shape with little pitting, but everything needs to be rechromed though. Too bad the horn ring are missing, and it needs a Highway HiFi to really top off the options

Thanks for the correction about the dual air. I'm used to seeing 57/58 Imperials and forgot older ones don't have the AC in the dash.

Location: North Australia | This car @ $9100, 3 days to go. I intend to fit rear AC to my 60 Coupe so looking at the pics gives me a few ideas and questions. I have been looking at the shots of the chassis and the AC line mounting brackets and lines, looks like 3 refrigerant lines? Brackets look to be well made, are they OEM? The compressor is a later model but it might be a retrofit replacement. I don't know if this year car has a front AC or not??. Keen to here from someone who knows about these things! I like this car, and wish it were mine. Steve. Edited by 60 Imp 2015-01-27 6:44 AM

Expert Posts: 1527 Location: ZH, Switzerland | If the VIN (C56008) is correct then it was converted (IMHO) with a factory conversion kit to the Torqueflite. 008 IMHO was a very early bird at the production year.
Happy Motoring!

Dieter Actual VIN # as the door-tag states is C564008 Which is later in the year. The seller must've made a typo in the item details; only the pictures show the correct #.

I like this car, and wish it were mine. Steve. The 56's had no front mounted AC from the factory, all where rear mounted like this. This particular car has a factory mounted AC, this you can tell because of where the switch are located on the dash. Factory installed had the switch mounted to the left of the light switch. Dealer mounted OEM-style AC had the same switch mounted in a chrome bracket under the gear selector, next to the heater controls. The brackets for the AC lines are OEM style yes. Not a OEM compressor in this car. In 56 Chrysler and Imperial came with two different compressors. one who looks like a big square chunk of metal, and one v-style compressor, the square one are the most common.

Location: North Australia | Thanks Mopar56, good info. I re-read all the posts and looked at the pics again. Greg, I didn't think you were knocking the car, hard to not like a well optioned 56 Imperial Coupe in as good a condition as this car. I like this car and would have it if I could! bidding has slowed, still less than 10K, 2days to go. I have asked previously for pics of the fridge tube runs to the back of the car for a 60 model. Also interesting to know 56 only had rear air! That surprised me a lot. I am still trying to work out why there are 3 tubes between the front and back of the car, I am thinking thermostat tube as well as the supply and return lines. Steve.
