Expert Posts: 1207 Location: Ponder, TX | It's time to find tinted door glass for my '56 Plymouth 2-door hardtop, and I'm looking for supplier suggestions. Any idea what price is fair for custom cut, tinted, flat glass?

Expert Posts: 2196 Location: Muskego, WI | I paid $40 per window for my 1956 Imperial at a local place in my area. I brought in my cracked glass and they matched it exactly, we're lucky that our cars are old enough to have flat glass.

Expert Posts: 1207 Location: Ponder, TX | Jon, was that for tinted glass? So far, the only supplier I've found online that shows my glass available has it listed for $81 each in Solex tempered, but I'm waiting for replies from other suppliers, (including Vintage, Ian, though they list individual price as $82). My local glass cutter thinks all glass is gold plated! Edited by GaryS 2015-03-02 5:22 PM

Veteran Posts: 119 | The best solution is a local, old school auto glass shop. Take them the whole window still in its frame. They will demount the glass, clean up/repair the frame, cut the new glass in any tint you want, install, clean, and give you back a ready-to-install window. Overall the cheapest and most efficient way to get an excellent result.

The only real glass shop in town charged me $45 for a 1/8"x12"x36" tinted and tempered glass with unfinished edges. They didn't do anything besides cut, and quarter inch would have doubled the price. The frame stainless was so pitted and rusty, they wouldn't even touch them, besides, I already have the frames disassembled, cleaned, de-rusted, and nearly completely polished.

Expert Posts: 1207 Location: Ponder, TX | hoodinki - 2015-03-03 4:18 PM OK, talk to Stacy at Performance Auto Glass in Redwood City, CA, 650 722 4914, and mail them to him. He did great work on my 56 Plymouth. But I'll bet there are several in nearby Dallas. However, being a cheap pennypincher is always a deal breaker. (You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.) Thank you for the snotty insult, and thanks for reminding me why I quit posting on this forum a while back...something I'll happily do again.

(I don't know why I can still remember a particular "Best Interior" award.) I'd like to see how those frames are looking; (I'm just starting to figure out the frames and mechanism in my 60 wagon with Solex.) Wildcat lists a 56 Savoy, but not sure if tinted. I wish glass was just a call to Joe away. Edited by Dave L. 2015-03-05 12:29 AM
