Expert 5K+ Posts: 8443 Location: Perth Australia | Yep Well at least they made 2 different mountings I bought 2 nos spears from different suppliers and when I went to fit them, I found 1 had 2 cast in bosses in the front (I think or was it the back) end and the studs were in a shorter spacing I had to drill and tap the second boss so it would fit and I also had to grind the recess for the ridge in the fender into it as well Just another little challenge along the way to putting mine together

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8443 Location: Perth Australia | The old ones (std phoenix) has a part number of 1863342 I tried to find that number in my parts book and it wasnt there? All I could find was a name plate package for the polara and matadore, no mention of the darts having them at all What was interesting was that the 60 desoto appears to have the same spears Its then possible that the one I have with the 2 cast in bosses might be for a desoto? Just for curiocity, if I get a chance, I will take that one off to see the number (might be a few days or so though) I'll PM you when I do Chuck

Expert Posts: 2308 Location: The Bat Cave, Fairborn, OH | My older brother's 1960 Dodge Dart Phoenix had the fender spears when he first got it. He had an accident with it and ran into someone at night. It was not a serious accident and he wasn't hurt, but the fenders were mangled so badly that they were replaced by the body shop with fenders that did not have the fender spears - probably from the Seneca or Pioneer line. This accident happened when the car was only 8 years old so there must have been fenders around which would have had the holes ready drilled. I don't believe he ever explained to me why he didn't have it put back correctly but it was probably an insurance job and "good enough" is "good to go" usually for those robbers.

Expert Posts: 1231 Location: York County, PA | The Aussie book is different than the American book. The numbers that I have in my book is 2196 412 and 2196 413. These are for the PD3 and PD4 and is a package.

Expert Posts: 1819 Location: Vancouver, BC | Part number 2196 412 is for a fender ornament package for the D3-H (Dodge Dart 6 Phoenix) and D4-H (Dodge Dart V8 Phoenix). The book lists 2 per car so the unit is left or right. Part number 2196 413 is a fender ornament package for the D2-H (Dodge Polara). Again the lists 2 per car so the unit is left or right. They also list a base for the ornament, 2196 414-5, where 414 (even) is right and 415 (odd) is left. The 1960 DeSoto is listed as using fender top medallion 2196 500, (2 per car) which is also listed for the 1960 Chrysler. 1863342 is probably the casting number for one of the pieces in the package. Each casting or stamping was issued a unique number, and the combined unit, including any mounting hardware, was given a unique part number. The number does fall into the same group as a number of ornaments and nameplates used on hoods and fenders of various 1960 Mopar car lines.

Expert Posts: 1231 Location: York County, PA | I removed the fender spears from my 1960 Phoenix today. The numbers and letters are the same on both except for the letter between the bolt posts. The pass. side has the letter 3 on the right leg and the driver side has a 4 on the right leg. There is a difference between them, if you put them side by side there is a slight curve at the narrow end. Catch ya later

Expert Posts: 2312 Location: Arizona | Are the mounting holes identical or are they different so you can't mistakenly put them on the "wrong" fender?

Expert Posts: 1231 Location: York County, PA | They are identical. I made a small mistake on my last post, on the driver side spear the 4 was on the left leg. Catch ya later.

Expert Posts: 1231 Location: York County, PA | The numbers 186334-2 are on the inside narrow end and the letters AAKH are on the inside at the wide end where the sail is. The mapar mark is in front of them. Catch ya later
