Location: Central New York | Hi all. Can someone please tell me what the procedure is for removing the e-brake backing plate from the trans tail shaft ? Everything else has been removed including the spring clip. All that remains is the plate.
I looked in the manual, and it tells how to disassemble the brake assy but says nothing about backing plate removal. Is it even removable ? I don't want to damage it by using blatant stupidity. Thanks. |

Location: Muskego, WI | I had my '56 torquefllite apart, brake backing plate was stubborn after being rusted in place for 55 years but it let go eventually. I thought I had pictures of it, but can't seem to find them. |

Location: Central New York | Define "finally let go". was a puller used ? Is it a press-fit type of attachment ? Did you have to hammer it off? |

Location: Muskego, WI | I kept spraying it with PB Blaster and letting it soak. It eventually came off with a rubber mallet. You said you removed the retaining clip, but there is that rubber donut that is between the tail housing and the backing plate. Mine were basically glued together and the PB Blaster eventually worked its way between the two parts. I'll look around for my pictures this weekend and post them here if I find them. |

Location: Central New York | Thanks Jon. I'll give mine the same treatment of PB Blaster and hammer taps. |
