Extreme Veteran Posts: 451 | Just finished a 12 hour bodywork marathon...lots of dollying and dollying and dollying...saved the quarter panel close to the door., sacrificed my forearm getting a small dolly anvil in behind the quarter to get the big dent out of the quarter., looks like it got all cut up by a razor knife...didn't realize the sharp edges of the back quarter window sheet metal was cutting my arm all up..but was worth it....it will heal in a few days...lol...came out nice, so didn't have to cut sheetmetal and replace afterall!!!...so got to save the original quarter!...yeah!..Got the top all done today too and the side pillars by the back window....still have that longgggg drivers quarter to finish up and some rust on the lower quarter by the stone guard to cut out and replace. Extreme Veteran Posts: 451 | I've been watching this car too...I think maybe about three years ago it was for sale and I missed it., ever since, been scouring then internet for one....then this one went back up on FL about 6 months ago or so...so I snagged it...been wanting to do a Matador..and man..they are really hard to find...basically the same car as my 60 Adventurer, just different sheetmetal!...I have a rotisserie it will be going on this winter to strip the undercoating off the bottom....the rotisserie worked well for my 60 Desoto last winter (barely fit in my garage while up on it's side)...I cleaned out another 4 feet of junk at the far end of the garage to get these biggins into the garage...two of them fit in nicely now!..lol Been looking for parts, I have the motor rebuilt already done to go in, it's a 62 motor 361 out of a Chrysler....so being a 6 bolt, I had to find one of those hard to find torqueflite trans , Big M had one....This original motor I have for it is pretty toasty looking...but I do have it and the original trans that will get a makeover one day. Easy to swap later...(relatively speaking). Will post picts when I have some new stuff done...It needs a trunk floor and a lower pass rear quarter...have the trunk floor cut out and I have located an original rust free donor car here close to my house...so just gotta see how much to get those original sheetmetal pcs....I don't like the aftermarket trunk floor...the contour lines are not even close, metal is thinner....I put one in my '60 Desoto and it didn't have positions for the crossmembers for the gas tank...so had to do some mods to get it to work...turned out great though., but would rather put in original sheet metal if possible. I already have a line of people that want it when it's done., but I think I am gonna hold on to this one!!!! G

Extreme Veteran Posts: 451 | Looks like it's gonna be a few more weeks (at least) till I can dive back into the Matador...weather has been cold and rainy...and haven't got much further on this 64 Falcoon I am painting. Some a-hole took off all the trim on the Falcoon, and the body work is taking quite a bit more time to do since there is like a million holes to file and finish....uggg.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 451 | Yeah., restoring three of these at the same time is not an easy task, specially with my old bones and limited budget....BUT., they WILL get done....this one is bringing up the rear...the 60 Desoto is ready for paint now., but too cold to paint at the moment...and the '59 Sport Fury.,...still waiting on my upholstery (going on two years this past summer!...yeah really., two years!)....I am suppose to get my back seat this weekend....YEAH RIGHT!, The Matador is probably one of the coolest, rarest, (least seen on the road for sure) and odd-ballest in this era., so wanna do a good job on it!...so gonna take my time. A pulled back and shoulder has side lined me this past month...so put me behind a bit!

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8443 Location: Perth Australia | Being messed around by motor trimmers is what made me buy a sewing machine and doing it myself To be honest, it was rather interesting and almost fun to do, wouldnt want to do it for a living though, I'll just keep playing with my wires One thing about doing the trimming, it was nice to finish doing something and still being clean, not like when I was recently cleaning all the gunk out of the buick engine, what a mess

Extreme Veteran Posts: 451 | cbrayinga - 2015-12-18 1:58 AM That is one CLEAN, KEEN MACHINE!!! Best of luck to you on your resto, guyman! Thanks for the encouragement...probably won't be getting back on it 'till the beginning of 2016...and maybe by then, just maybe, I will have my back seat for my '59 Sport Fury (doubtful).,.....on top of it, I just had to buy another three yards on vinyl to do my door panels etc......ANOTHER $200 in materials from SMS...Uggg. I am sure I could do the upholstery if I took my time....maybe on this Matador I will...LOL Good thing is I got my bumpers back and installed on the '59, thanks to "ChromeGuy" out of L.A. area...he does great work and reasonable....so at least the SF looks good now going down the road....LOL Edited by guyman 2015-12-19 1:44 AM (bumper.jpg) Attachments ---------------- bumper.jpg (329KB - 222 downloads)

Extreme Veteran Posts: 451 | Sorry Mr. Bob...unfortunately I have been working on "other" people's cars, painting a '64 Falcon, then another neighbor has an all original one owner '68 Mustang fastback I have to get back on the road for her...who know what it needs., probably new gas tank, all new brakes, the engine?....hasn't run in a loooooooong time., so after I get those two cars buttoned up, summer will be here and I need to paint the '60 Desoto....THEN., and maybe THEN., I may get back on it. I have a few more projects further along then the Dodge., so it may have to wait a bit. And those are the updates my friend! I did find a few parts I needed., was missing one small trim piece for the door and needed one "matador" script for the front fender., so luckily found them both a couple days ago...not easy to find those emblems.

Location: North Australia | Guy, please re-prioritise! I want to see that Matador come together so bad! (I was just wondering about this car last week). Unreal you are doing 3 cars simultaneously. You must be taking some good notes! Good luck Mate, keep the pics coming. The Fury looks great by the way. Steve Edited by 60 Imp 2016-02-17 7:30 AM

Extreme Veteran Posts: 451 | Haha., yeah., me too., it's gonna be a while., in the mean time., been collecting parts I need., just found these two pieces., finding these Matador fender scripts in good shape is like pulling hen's teeth!., and that other piece is the small trim that goes behind the door handle., another hard part to find....now just need to start finding the front grill section, large and small trim. I also have a rebuilt motor already., so that is a big cha ching done. (matador.jpg) Attachments ---------------- matador.jpg (109KB - 195 downloads)

Extreme Veteran Posts: 451 | Well folks, not much moving on the Matador., this winter took on some "other people's" projects and they are taking longer then usual. (always the case!)., trying to finish up a '64 Falcon for a neighbor and a 68 Mustang fastback for another!....so unfortunately., the Matador has taken a back seat for a bit...hopefully back on it soon. I still need to finish painting my 60 Desoto 2Dr HT also, but didn't like how the final wetsand came out before paint...so more primer and blocking to be done...so may be a while before I get back on the Matador... Those are the updates and I am sticking to it!...Stopped by John's the other day to pick up some parts for the Matador...(he's a busy man!), always nice to see the John-ster! Happy Motoring! Be Safe!
