Location: Central New York | Hi all. Hope everyone's summer is going fine. Once again I'm in need of this site's expertise. while putting the new motor into Belvy we came across a problem. The oil pan on the 65 motor doesn't play well with the k-frame of the car. I took the pan, pump, and pickup tube off the old 61 engine figuring to swap it in place of the 65 stuff. The 61 pan will bolt up of course because it the virtually the same pan as the 65. The problem I'm having is the 65 pickup and tube. It won't fit the 61 pan. I was going to simply remove the oil pump on the 65 and install the 61 on the engine and that way the pan would be perfect bolt on. But it looks like the pumps are configured so very different.
I'm wondering if anyone had done something like this before ? will the oil pumps swap.(that would be the perfect scenario) Also, I've tried to remove the pickup tube from the oil pump. Most(or all) Mopars have screwed in pickup tubes. I have tried to unscrew the tubes from the pumps to no avail. ( almost crushing the 65 one.)
Can someone please tell me what the best course of action is to have all the parts play nice with each other.

Location: N.W. Fla. | Not clear, but I take it the '61 pump won't bolt on to the '65 block. No experience with this particular situation..but look & see if the pad area on the rear main is configured large enough to take the '61 pump. If so then place O/P on the int shaft & see if 1, 2, or 0 bolts line up with existing mounting holes. If one or both don't like up but it looks like the pump would seal to the pad take the Main & pump to a machine shop & have them fill the old hole(s) with threaded rod & drill new holes.. |

Location: atlanta | 85 pump won't mount to the 61 block, 62 up pump has a hex female to hex male from the intermedite shaft. |

Location: Central New York | CRAP !!! That's what I was afraid of, something like that. My other idea was to try to just switch the tubes seeing as how that's all that's preventing the 65 oil pan from bolting on. I'm not sure how they come apart. I was told that they unscrew, but I don't see any threads, unless they're buried all the way in. I tried to unscrew the 61 tube from the pump on a bench and it wasn't having any of it. I don't want to crush it, I need it. any ideas ?
Help !! I have a running motor that can't be put in the car because the oil pan sits on the k-frame, and I'm not a fan of butchering an old Mopar. |

Location: Central New York | I'll try to get some good pics. A buddy of mine gave me a pretty out-of-the-box idea. If for some reason a swap couldn't be done, he said to cut the tube on the 65 motor between the pickup and the pump, thread it, put a union in, and then re-attach the pickup in the desired position.
He's a plumber by trade, so I expect stuff like this from him. |

Location: Arizona | I was thinking more or less the same thing. Once I got it "fit" I'd be inclined to silver solder or weld it together rather than use some kind of threaded union. |

Be a bit yucky to have it come loose at some time and sort of wander around
Just cut it and find (or machine up) a sleeve that fits over the pipe and braze it up

But if you guys think it can be done and be done right, then who am I to say different. first off, are the tubes pressed fit in or are they screwed in ?? Has anyone done something like this and if so, what was the procedure and out come ??

my thought also , sleeve will never let it move , brazed or welded ----------------------------------later
ps ,,,,, it screws out but if its real tight remove the pump with tube , set it lightly in a vise , take a 000 or so brazing tip and heat the pump real hot in one place only near the tube ,
it'll come right out . this works with about anything that screws in and real tight . showed to me by a machinist yrs ago . real simple and easy
