So, you're saying you wanted to kill 2 birds but you got one back?

did you care about cars when you were a snot nose kid? probably not.

I did! I owned a '58 Dodge when I was that kid's age.
If I saw an old car on the road when I was a young man, I sure didn't try to run it off the road - I would enjoy the view!

Funny how these threads make a full circle. I also owned a 58 Dodge 'Sierra wagon' at a young age. loved it, then sold it when I went to A and P school. last time I saw it,
it was pretty well stripped and sitting in Speedway Auto Salvage.

Rick, if that was a red and white wagon, I pulled a couple of trim pieces off that are now on John and M'Lisa's wagon.
at least a little part of that car is back on the road again.

I too loved cars when a snot nosed kid, I knew the make of every car on the road by age 5! Of course that was the early and mid '50s and cars didn't all look alike back then! At 15 I almost bought a '55 T-Bird that needed work, but my Dad wouldn't let me. Before that I'd ride my bike to the local Dodge dealer and sit in the DeSoto trade-ins on the back row of their used car lot! And I still have a '57 DeSoto ad I cut out of one of my parents National Geographics at around age 8!

I did run into a goofball on our recent trip to Moab. I was having trouble with the points and I pulled into a gas station in Moab. I left the car running while I checked on a few things. This dipstick pulls up to fill his tank and walks up to me and says "Hey, do you mind turning that (my car) off?" I was about to reply "sure", when the dude gets all indignant and says "that's poisonous, c'mon man!" and stomps back to his car. I just left the car running and went to a different gas station.

may i question how old you are?! in the 50s, 60s and 70s kids in the western hemisphere could tell each and every make just by the taillights in the dark before they could ride a bicycle. i use to hang around with my buddy on the side of the street just to wait for a certain car to go by. over here in germany every kid (still in the 70s) was car crazy and everyone would cut out car pictures to plaster their rooms until you couldn't see the wallpaper anymore. that has changed, its the smartphone now. i believe theres something in the food or water, i can't find any logical explanation for that.

Mike, wish I could be there. I'd love to have enough time to really sit down and visit.

Rick, not to make you feel like a young whippersnapper, but I'm so old, the first new car I drove was two years after getting my license, and it was my dad's new '56 Plymouth!

I know this thread ... almost dead. I report that Speedway is still around but too picked over for me to go back again. did find some Imperial wheels but nothing else. Look John ventilated wheels for the disc brakes on the D501.
