Hey all great site!!!

I'm in the works of buying what I believe is a fury. Has the body tag with the 404 and the engine looks right. I haven't checked the numbers on it yet, but I will. He was asking 30k, then 22k, so I offered 13k as long as everything checks out. What do you guys think? It's got the 318 3x2s and another red/white combo over the original color

I'm no Fury expert, but shouldn't it have power brakes? Looks like a black dash too, which doesn't seem right. Obviously the heater and the (expensive) control valve are missing, hoses are wrong, engine color is wrong etc. but you'll know all that. Seems like a decent car for the money though, I have a lot more than that in my sedan and it's not finished!

How's the headliner and floors?

It does look like a real 57 fury to me.

If it is, and if you can get it for the amount you offered, it seems like a great deal... And that leaves you room to un-Christinize it, restore it as a Fury again, and increase its value a lot!

I know I would get it if I found a deal like that!

Looking again at the pics, I realize I know that car.
Here's a couple of pics of that same car before it was "Christinized".

I sent you a personnal message.

Wow what a shame to see how nice it was before being painted red and white. Thank you all so far, it's a small world, especially in ours. I'll keep in touch. I'm looking to pick this up on Saturday.

If you can get it at 13k that would be quite a bargain! I sure would like to pick one up like this for that price.

Hope you can make a deal, as it looks to be an authentic Fury.

The Fury 318 for '57 will also have FP31 XXXXXXXXX stamped just below the driver's side cylinder head on the block.

Thank you all for the help here. I'll be picking it up Saturday and my plans will be to make it more correct as a Christine clone.....
Kidding, it will go back to Fury specs as best as possible. Big M thanks for the engine pointers, I'll keep everyone posted when I get her. I'm sure I can pick up the heater box off lebay as well as power brakes.

Not 3x2 but 2x4, just what you want

Looks to be the correct side saddle air filters (well 1/2 of them), see if he has the rest of them

The 58 had the oval ones you see in the movie

Also looks to have the correct carbs as well

Bit of work needed to get the engine bay correct, but at what yor saying you offered, its a great buy, congratulations

It is a real Fury, i sold it to the person that Christinized it. The pictures of it before it was painted are in my shop. It had the heater box and power breaks when I sold it? I had the docs from Chrysler Historical on it too. Incidently it sold for more than 13k back then.

I hope they didn't hack those air cleaners off like that... Car doesn't look too bad. Just needs to be stripped down and redone correctly.

I still cry about the 58 Fury that was pulled out of the original owners garage (a lady) in the early 90s here in SLC. 30 k original miles. It was near perfect.

At the purchase price (which is implied to be $13K, but not confirmed), hard not to flip.

I almost feel sorry for clicking on this topic that turned sour.
I still see a basicly old weathered car (with mostlikely matching maintainance) on which someone barfed some dull red paint on.
Sad to see greed took control and it got flipped into a way higher price level without anything been done to the car in the mean time, except for seperatly selling some trunk items to improve profits.

Oh well, congrats on pulling it off I guess.

How can you say greed took over?

Taking what he has said at face value, he has moved and is losing storage

Assuming he got the car cheap at $13000 and assuming the reserve was around that figure, good luck to him, but even if the reserve was $22000 and someone is/was willing to pay that, then good on him too

Just because the bid amount is at $22000 doesnt mean it was the reserve, it may be thats what the previous bidders max bid was

I tried to look at the bids, but it wouldnt let me

I dont think that if someone lands a bargain, that they must pass it on if they (for whatever reason) sell it

I guess I am a flipper, because in my business I buy things at a cheaper price than I sell it for, sometimes within 5 minits of my purchase time

Good luck to him and I hope both buyer and seller are happy

The Reserve WAS $22k Michael,

As i checked at the time and the 2nd bid was $7500, The 3rd Bid jumped to $22k and showed Reserve Met.. The 4th and 5th bids were many hrs later..

Thats ok

Original seller was after more than that to start with

With bids like that, I would say that they would have to be genuine bids because the seller is now liable for the fees on the bid amount (If I have it right?), so it will sell for what someones willing to pay for it

I think it will be between $25,000 to $30,000, it looks pretty good in the ebay pictures

When I see someone here act 'interested', on a hobbyist forum like this and buy a car, but then goes putting it on Ebay within a month for double the amount, it feels like that person went for the gold instead to me.
(To be honest, I thought at first the car was bought 24 December and put up for sale again just 5 days later, but I noticed later this topic was started on the 24 of November.)

So... someone out there bought a solid old Fury for the right money, had it Earl Scheib'd red, stuck a dorky windshield sticker on it, riveted diamond plate over the heater box, messed up the brakes, and then sold it for a loss to someone that is going to make a small fortune off of it.

WOW.

For those of you who gave me benefit of the doubt, thank you. I just moved to Maine, and this car is now in the snow. Allot can happen in 30 days. I registered it and paid the $1400 in taxes to do it. If I were after a quick buck I would have just flipped it. I will get another, but it's not realistic right now.

Hi Guys, I see you have a really great forum here! I have been interested in this Fury on ebay and that is how I found your forum. Pretty amazing how this hole story panned out above.. I dont have much knowledge on these Plymouth Fury's so I was curious what your thoughts are on this one that is for sale . It appears the bidding on this car is going to go higher and my first thought is what if a buyer ends up paying say $30,000 for this car, should they (if they had the money of course) just purchase the other one on ebay for another $20-25,000 that is all finished, low miles ect. What kind of money would you put into this one? I'm thinking at 20-$25,000 decent price but at $30,000 maybe going overboard what do you think? Got to hand it to Old42 he really hit a home run on this one what a deal.
Thanks!

Welcome and good luck

Genuine 57/58 fury's are worth good money and the seller did certainly score well with it

I doubt you would find another at that price that wasnt totally rusted out or complete

It is hard to gauge restoration value without knowing what your plans and expectations would be for the car and being able to physically see the car to see the standard of any previously done repairs (this also goes the same for the "completed restoration cars"

$20,000 can buy a lot of stuff or next to none (think chrome, steering wheel restoration, professional paint and panel, interior ect), but the more you can do yourself, the cheaper it can get and if driver quality chrome is ok, then also cheaper right down to just fixing whats broken and driving it

To me, old car restoration is done as a hobby and not so much as an investment, so it really comes down to you, if you think its worth it and its going to bring a smile to your face when its in your driveway, its worth whatever your willing to pay, if your doing it as an investment, I wouldnt buy it without seeing it and pricing out and sourcing the obvious things that need to be done

To restore a car as an investment, its not a car, its a collection of components and condition of those components and replacement costs against projected resale value determine a good or bad investment

To restore a car for a hobby or the love of the car is for the roller coaster ride of good and bad that happens as you progress from what it is now to what you want it to be in the end

Did that help

I usually don't care if people flip cars, That's how the world works, buy low sell high. It seems like people don't have a problem paying a mark-up to a dealer or a retailer, but if a regular guy tries to make a buck, watch out! 99% of everything anybody has ever bought from their clothes to their houses has had a mark-up. But when you try to explain it as "life changes" and your 2 other Ebay auctions are way overpriced items, it's hard to believe you are just having "life changes". $550 for 1 piece of sportone insert and $300 for stone guards, and a minimal description on a 58 year old car. Just admit you're wanting to make a buck.

The original photos of the car look like a very good starting point for a 1957 Fury restoration .The correct 1957 side trim would be the hardest part to find in my opinion .The price the seller bought it for shouldn't be a deciding factor for someone looking for a original Fury .It would be a shame however not to return this to a real 57 Fury .It seems that a Buyer could find a 58 Belvedere and build a Christine clone if that is what they want .Not to many real Furys come up for sale .

The seller has sold quite a few cars in the last year. Camaro's, firebird, charger, couple of other chevs and in the last 6 months a Corvette. Not to mention all the car parts for mustangs etc.... Have a look at the feedback as a seller and I think that tells the whole story.. Even though it's his choice to make such a profit if bought for 13k, it's a shame that someone with a passion didn't get it for that price.

You are absolutely correct it would be nice if a person with real passion found this car first .I have been lucky enough to be the first person to find something and get the Deal .But lately with eEbay and all the other online services that is getting very hard to do .Especilly with a car like that with people Destroying a Real Fury ,for the sake of another Christine Clone .

There was a post here by Beefemalone earlier, and it seems it has now been deleted. I will explain why, because something just did not seem right with the bid cancellations and the "buyer" and the post here from earlier.
I was almost taken for a ride from Dan Dale and his father who own Jackson Car Lease located in Jackson Mississippi. They have multiple ebay accounts such as Hippietoys (who won my last auction) Beefmalone (who was the next bidder under Hippietoys) and also TSS-MS, which was submitting questions in interest to obtain the car. These were all the same person and family. This is a scheme and from what I can tell in my short research is that the method is to use their accounts to ruin the auction multiple times over to exhaust the buyer to sell offline for much less.
Happie toys (who won the car) is registered to William Anderson. William Andersons address is where Dan Dale's suspended law license is registered to. The distance between William Anderson and the "family business" is 1.6 miles according to google maps. I spoke to Dan Dale and he claims he does not know Will Anderson although his address is 1.6 miles away, and his law license is there. It seems, after reviewing the reviews for this family business that this process is how they make their living. Happie toys left me a negative feedback, which after I told tyhem what I researched they were happy to remove it. Dan says his father (happietoys) wanted to suprise them, and he did not know that happietoys was his fathers account. I asked who the heck Will Anderson is since its his fathers account and thats not his dads name. He had no answer, and its obvious why. I have referred this to the Mississippi Atty General if I did not get that feedback removed. Now that the post is deleted (dont worry Dan, I have a screenshot) is there any question of guilt? The post said he spoke to the "winning bidder" and I could not provide a title which is a lie. But when I spoke to his he said his father just told him he bid on the car for it to be a surprise??
I know I did well with the car, but I really dont deserve being slandered and made into a liar, so If there are any others here that were involved, kindly stop. Thank you.

I did see that post when it was still online. Thanks for clearing that up, Olds82. Too bad you have to deal with these kinds of characters. Good luck with the sale!

Yes the are a lot of dogs out there who like to stuff things up for other people. Fake bidding is fraudulent and I wish ebay would do more... On a different note, if the 2nd part of beefmalone's post is true, to be quite honest I feel sorry for the original seller. Yes it's up to him how much he sold it for but I've sold vehicles below value to help people out.... I would rather help someone out than screw them over...

Slandered? Hardly. I deleted the post after you called me crying about it as a favor, but I'll repost if you wish.

You told the original seller, whom you jewed down to $13k, that this was your dream car, played the veteran card, would never sell, etc. so he sold it to you. OF course, after registering it you immediately put it on ebay where I bid on it not realizing where I had seen the car before. Later my father, who knows how much I've been wanting one, ended up winning it for me thinking he was doing me a favor. He emailed you several times requesting a copy of the title which for whatever reason you could not provide. You acted like this was some type of unusual request when in fact I've yet to know of a bank that will lend money on a vehicle without seeing the title first. When you couldn't/wouldn't provide a copy of the title he gave up assuming it was some kind of scam.

Any fool can research a phone number or name on the internet, Ian Emmott. I use this name everywhere so it's no big secret since I have nothing to hide. Googling my info should be simple for someone who spent nearly 5 years in the Coast Guard and has worked at a large insurer like Quincy Mutual Group. Was there a point you were trying to make?

I have all the messages where you stalled and came up with excuses for not providing a copy of the title.

I've spoken on the phone with the previous owner and have text messages from him detailing the BS you told him when you bought the car.

Of course, now that you are selling it you have a new story about how you are in a bind for money...yet just a few weeks ago you had the wherewithal to buy it. I guess your story is liable to change to suit your purposes. When you were trying to buy it cheap it was your dream car. Now that you're selling it I guess you're in the poorhouse. It's your car so you can sell it for whatever you wish, but don't try to turn me into the bad guy here.

Nice story Dan, but some day what you do to people for a "living" will catch up with you. I've done my part by referring what I found to eBay Fraud, Mississippi Atty General, Jackson Police. Will they do anything? Probably not but it's one more on you. You may want to make a new cache of fictitious accounts.

yeah if your so desperate to sell because your "out of space" etc etc.. why not sell it for 17? why demand 22?

this stinks of lies and more lies trying to appease your potential customer base. Your a flipper, I don't care. You've priced your ebay auctions too high but again, I don't care either.

It's a free country, your trying your hand at flipping. Every used car guy is doing the same so I don't care. Lying about it just means your a typical used car guy.

Thanks Dan I completely forgot it's a free country. Let my quit my job and create fake eBay acounts, and sell rv's that have blown head gaskets and leak. And when I get caught with all my fraud, I can say it's ok because we live a free country.
