I really don't like the master cylinder setup for power brakes. And I would prefer to use a dual master to go with disc brakes. I am thinking of using this one from Tomsclassic on ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/remote-fill-master-cylinder-street-rod-rat-...

It looks like it should seal better than the Wilwood remote master (bottom picture) and I can use the Mopar Performance 4 to 2 bolt adapter without having to fab my own. Has anyone used this master and can give feedback on it? I would rather not use a plastic reservoir on my car, but does anyone have suggestions of how to make a homemade reservoir look like it belongs on a '57 Chrysler?

You could paint the reservoir with castiron colored paint.

Now that I have this kit in hand, I have to make a correction/clarification to what I originally said. I stated that you could use the 2 bolt to 4 bolt mopar adapter. Yes, but not well. It will physically bolt on if you massage the hole size. It is only .005" too small for the master. But there are two sizes on the end of the master, and the one closest to the ports is larger in diameter. If you use this with the Mopar adapter, it won't fit over the inner register so there would be a gap between the master and the adapter. This can be solved by inserting some washers of the correct height on the studs to make up the difference, but it is annoying to have to do so and the piston is REALLY deep in the hole and already requires a lengthened push rod. This gap would only add to that length.

Alternatively, you could machine out the adapter to fit the larger portion of the master, but then, the adapter would be too thin to register on the main smaller diameter portion so it wouldn't be as stable (There is a section between the two diameters that is smaller than both of them and the adapter ends up in this region without touching the outer portion). As long as it remains tightened to the adapter, it probably wouldn't matter, but since I would be paying someone to machine it anyway, it is probably better to just make up my own adapter to begin with. Not very ideal.

The master cylinder is heavy duty and nice quality. The remote connections are really tight and should seal well and has plenty of clearance from the power booster. It is 1.125" diameter so probably a good choice to use with power brakes. There seems to be just enough room to mount the reservoir that they provide too so it seems good in all those respects.

Also, some info that was not provided by the seller. This master is designed with the 1/2-20 threaded port on the front of the master to be used with the front brakes, and the 9/16-18 port on the rear to be used with the rear brakes. So the thread sizes match typical mopar masters, but the positions are reversed. Also, it is built for disc/disc cars. If you want to use it on a disc/drum car, you will need a 10 psi residual pressure valve in the rear line, or one in each line for a drum/drum vehicle. The remote lines use 1/4" hose that isn't provided. Be sure to get hose suitable for brake fluid. I got mine separately on Ebay.

I think the diameter is too big for a good pedal feel.
Especially with the low pedal ratio our Fwlks have I think you would have to get a MC in the 1" or 15/16" range to be able to make enough pressure to apply the brakes.

I sort of agree with you Herman, but the stock master cylinder is 1.125" too! I have a 1.032" diameter master on my '67 Barracuda with manual brakes and it is about perfect for me. Hard pedal, but plenty of stopping power. For manual brakes, I think that 1.125" is too big, but with power, it should be OK and is actually the same size as the original one.

I've got 3 cars with exactly the same discbrake/drum setup, but with different MC diameters and boosters (and pedal ratios as well I recall).
The brake system consists, on all 3 cars, of C-body calipers (2.75" diameter), 11.75" rotors and drum brakes at the rear.

My '73 Dart has a Dr Diff 1-1/32" MC.
My '60 has a 1-1/16" MC.
The '62 NY wagon has a junkyard 15/16" MC.

The '62 wagon, by far, has the best brake performance. It can really put the hammer down when the pedal is pressed.
My daily Dart has adequate good brakes for daily use, given the weight of the car. But at times I would like some more linepressure in the system.
My '60 NewYorker however with its low pedal ratio (4:1), old booster design (and large cam/low vacuum engine), make the brake system lacking performance at times.

Since I already have this, I'm going to give it a try. I finished the lines with a 1/4" line to the fronts and 3/16 to the rear and a 10psi residual inline valve. It really helps to build this stuff in an open engine compartment. Makes it much easier to build.

I had to extend the push rod so I welded a 7/16" bolt to the end of it. The reservoir is a really tight fit with the hood closed. It fits, but just barely. Probably better to find one that is smaller to fit here, but I like the fact that it has one cap for both reservoirs.

Michael, What are the dimensions on it, how does it mount, and where can you get it? I like the reservoir I am using but it is quite expensive at around $150. But it does fit in the required spot very well and works great.

Ugh, theirs is even more expensive at $280, so that doesn't really help. I didn't look at their plastic version.

The ebay seller that I listed at the top of the page isn't selling those master cylinders anymore. I wish I could find a direct source or application for them. Anyone know? In the mean time, I am considering using this Mitsubishi Fuso master on my next car. It has a 1 1/8" piston just like the previous one and wouldn't be able to use an adapter to mount it. It is also cheaper at $59 + free shipping so it would save a good $100 or so without the adapter cost. Unfortunately though, the hole positions don't extend far enough outward (of course!) so they would need to be massaged to make it fit on the Chrysler bolt pattern. The holes would end up being pretty close to the outside of the flange, but I figure with a thick washer, it shouldn't be a problem to distribute the force along the flange well enough. What do you think? The lines extend from the bottom of the master and use metric 10 x 1.0mm threads with a 3/16" flared tube. I think the screws on the side are used to mount the prop valve.

I believe the ports on metric masters could have come with inverted flare or bubble fittings. This one looks like inverted flare to me, but I have never seen a bubble fitting on the female side before. Is this inverted flare here?
