Neil always advocated a separate forum for members to show photos of Googie/MCM
architecture, furniture, and all the other stuff that was hip and cool when Exner was at
his peak.

Here's a lamp I have had for decades that is finally getting an overdue restoration that
really stands out for crazy "atomic" styling.

Here's to Neil !

That's what I like - design without function

The worst imaginable is functional design - an item which noone cares to give a nice design, just the function :wince:

I am a design engineer by trade, and most of my stuff is all functional. The key to doing my job well is coming up with the best performing, simplest, cheapest, yet most reliable design possible to beat the competition. No one really cares about the looks for many things that are manufactured. And really, stuff on the inside of a transmission, for example, had better work regardless of how it looks. But I know what you meant. There are a gazillion ways to set a light on a pole, so you might as well do it with style.

I am not sure if I have anything, but I saw this neat stroller while camping this weekend. This is probably from the early '50's or late '40's, so a little earlier in style.

Spent some time this afternoon painting some scratched up areas, put a new
felt bottom on the base, and wired it up with a proper 1950's appearance cord
(and new brass grommet) and put it all back together. This thing is hard to capture
as it appears in person. The shade shows much more of the turquoise color than
the photos show. I darkened these photos a bit to show the color better. The
upward light really shows off the finial and throws a neat silhouette on the ceiling !

I have seen a lot of lamps, but never anything like that one, or even close. That is one cool lamp!!! Makes all the new lamps in stores and furniture "outlets" look so boring (not that they didn't before, but this kicks their butts........)

And here's the kicker, guys ..... I once had TWO of them, and my ex sold one at a yard sale
while I was working one Saturday !

I have a little tiny version of it that is about 10" tall. I need to find a shade for it though. The
original was long ago broken.

And the ex ? About 2 years ago she called me and apologized for always being so down on my
50's stuff. She had gotten the bug and withher new husband bought a 50's house and were all
about dolling it up with this junk.

I've been out of the loop, tribute and past tense makes me think he is now cruising in a Forwardlooker that will never run out of gas..

In either case, I've been really into mid century and Googie stuff lately, especially Eichlers homes. Anything Emmons or Oakland touches is pure gold.

Here's to Niel and his unwavering enthusiasm. Kampai!

Gotta have "accessories" !

Found these two detail pieces this weekend:

A nice pink glass sheath-shaped vase with outstanding gold starbursts
and a George Jetson styled pool "floatie board". I wonder how many of
these survive ???

.......

If I could work out how to post photos on here I'd be able to find some 50's Atomic age stuff I've got scattered around here and there.

Good thread though , I'm enjoying the photos, now it's started Neil's probably grinning down at us saying " I told you so "

Do kitchens count? I have Youngstown metal kitchen cabinets by Mullins with the chipped ice counter tops from Salem, OH; a Hobart Kitchen Aid Model 4C stand mixer; old Sunbeam electric deep fryer, skillet; salt/pepper shakers from a Westinghouse stove; all kinds of Wear-Ever aluminum baking pans, roaster, etc. made in New Kensington, PA; Glas-Bake baking dishes from Jeannette, PA; porcelain top kitchen table; Hall China from East Liverpool, OH; Theodore Haviland China made in New Castle, PA; Fostoria glass stemware made in Moundsville, WVA; Oneida Community Plate silverware, and Queen steak knives from Titusville, PA. Obviously, I didn't just get all this stuff recently, but it is like what I grew up with at home during the late 1950s. Oh, I forgot my 1953 edition of Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook.

Nowadays, most ladies don't even know how to cook from scratch or set a formal table for Sunday dinner. How times have changed!!

For anyone with some cash in Minnesota, ( $1.4 million) and original and mostly untouched Frank Lloyd Wright house has just come up for sale from the original owners, who are now in their 90s.

Nice house. Reminds me of Falling Water in western Pennsylvania that FLW also designed. Not my preference, too much concrete in the house, but the location is great.

I picked up a couple of fun tie clasps. I think the bottom one was intended for '54-'55 Plymouth advertising, but close enough to wear with my '56.
