I'm selling this vintage 6V aftermarket air conditioning setup, which I removed from my 55 Desoto Fireflite. Everything you see in the photos is included. Also, there is also a pulley that is still attached to the main crank pulley on the car, that goes with it.

No idea if this works, but it looks like a complete setup. In its day, this was likely an expensive $500 add on. But considering that the car was sold new in Lubbock, TX, probably necessary for survival during the brutal summers.

Shipping will be expensive, as the whole package weighs about 70 pounds. Local pickup is OK. This would be a great project for someone that has the expertise to get this working. I'm willing to let this go for a good price, as it's taking up space in my garage.

PM me if interested.

Ron

Yeah, man, you had a real treasure in your garage. My dad was looking for an air conditioning system compatible with his early '50s Desoto. This air conditioner seems to be a good fit. I'm not really into vintage cars, but my dad is also an old-fashioned style. So, when he needs information, he asks me to search online, o he asks his neighbors. So, he asked for help, to find an air conditioning and I'm looking for it. When I see it, I will call https://www.airconservicingsingapore.com/ team for a chemical overhaul. I call them once in three months to check my office air conditioners, but I know for sure that these old devices also need a serious check.

Curious: Beside the two fan motors, what else in your package is 6V specific? Could the fan motors be run on 12V, perhaps with an inline resistor (or rheostat)??

The clutch on the compressor is also electric. The pressure switch would probably be easy to change.

Okay. But somehow, I don't see any clutch on the compressor:

You're right , the old systems didn't use one.

It's very hard to work with such devices!

Really? But her explanation of not relying on the thermostat, and wrapping the wires around trees or pillars instead is so convincing! How could someone with malicious intent, simultaneously help people with such good advice?
