I came across a gentleman who has a '57 301 allegedly rebuilt and bored out to 312ish for sale. It's got the 4bbl intake manifold and I'm only after the air cleaner that is incorrect for the engine application. Anyone interested? Need parts? He's pretty firm on his price so I would only be looking at recouping a little.

Another thing. If any of you know what casting numbers to look for I would appreciate your help. I just want to confirm that we are dealing with a '57 and not an earlier 55-56 Chrysler engine.

Thanks, Andrew

The above list mixes the Dodge Hemi-based engines, (241-260-270) and the A series engines.

The Chrysler 301 Spitfire is a variant of the EarlyHemi design and totally different than the 301 Ply A series.
The easy way to ID an A engine is that the intake seals the valley and the Hemi series has a separate valley cover.
All of the Hemi-based engines have the user code stamped in the block at the top-front just in front of the valley cover.
The A series are stamped in the face of the block just below the deck surface on the driver side.
