i would like to hear from anyone who has removed the heater push button control unit fro the dash of a 61 Chryrsler non-air. Probably the same of 60 and 62 also.

The only thing that I have accomplished is the removing the 4 screws from the chrome trim. The unit itself can be pulled out an inch or so.

Thanks

Remove the speaker grille and speaker first - that give you some better access. The bowden Cable must be demounted, it's fixed with a clip and a ring of bowden Cable around the heater level. Now carefully pull the unit outwards, the lampholder will interfere with the upper part of the dash, you might need to bend it down slightly.

Once that you see the multi-tube connector, start to pry very carefully with a broad thin piece of metal, pry a Little in all four corners until you have removed the connector. Now you need to disconnect the wires for the fan - take a Picture and note where the wires goes. Finally, the connector for the bulb and then the unit should be free.

Most probably the cardboard that prevents the light to shine out through the heater level slot has rottened away - Gary Goers have them.
Also the felt around the push buttons can be shot - you can cut out a new one in a good quality felt.

This is the perfect time for to check your mirror stem and eventually tighten it or tighten the big nut under the dash
