Anybody know if the hoods for a big body 57-58 DeSoto and Chrytsler are the same other than the holes for the letters and trim? Can I use a 58 New Yorker hood on my 58 Desoto Fredome if I weld up the trim holes or do they have slightly different shapes? Thanks

I think so. Let me know if you don't want the trim along the front and letters.

I think fenders and hood(57-58 Chryslers) are the same for Desoto firedomes, they pretty much just hung different bumpers and trim.

Okay, I'll bite. What's different about the fenders?

Not including the possible headlight changes, the differences are mainly in the lower structure on the fender, but also for the side trim. This is a picture of a '57 Chrysler fender even though it is on my '58 Chrysler. The '57 Chrysler had dimples on the lower side of the fender to give room to mount the lower trim on the sides and on the front. These dimples are deeper than the picture makes it look, probably 1/8" on the sides and 3/8" on the front. '58 Chryslers, 300's, and DeSotos don't have these indents. Also, it has a smooth rounded front structure on it. DeSoto's had a pointy structure that matches with the front bumper and Chrysler 300's had no structure at all, that was replaced by the front facia with the vents in them.

Here is a picture of the DeSoto. You can see the side bump is smooth without any mounting holes, and the lower panel has a pointy structure that matches the front bumper. I'm not sure what the front structure on a '58 Chrysler looks like as my car had 1 fender from a 300, and 1 fender from a '57.

Here are some better pictures from some spares I have. Here you can clearly see the indents on the '57 Chrysler fender and the pointy lower structure on the '57 Desoto.

I had a lengthy argument with a very knowledgeable swede who insisted that (non-300) big body '58 Chrysler fenders were the same as '57 Chrysler fenders. They definitely are not the same. I picked up this '58 New Yorker fender from rebel yesterday and took some pictures of it to document the differences. Thanks Bob for the great parts! As you can see from the pictures, the front part of the '58 Chrysler fender extends down further to provide those lower 3 mounting holes. It also has a dimpled area with a mount on the side that enables you to mount the side grille to it. Since I only have 1 true '58 fender, I am going to have to fabricate something like this for the driver side - unless someone has one that they would sell to me?
