Location: Under the X in Texas | I'll say this for anyone's consideration. I know for a fact it was possible to order the 300C dual quad carburetion as an option on the '57 New Yorker. I don't see any reason why a similar order could not be placed in '60 to make this a factory installation. But DOCUMENTATION from Chrysler would seal the deal.

Elite Veteran Posts: 769 Location: Oley, PA | Yeah it would be very cool if it was an original ram car. That said, I doubt that it is. I've never heard of a ram equipped New Yorker. While it's possible that one could exist... The seller isn't claiming it to be original. The rams aren't painted as the 300F would be. Also, the air cleaners are aftermarket. Not that it proves anything. If this IS a factory ram car, it could be quite a find and possibly even worth what he is asking ($25,000). Otherwise, it's just a New Yorker 2-dr HT, which isn't bad, but price would depend very much on the condition. It's a shame the photos are so lousy. It's really impossible to tell much about the condition of the car from them. Looks like it needs paint, but hard to tell anything more. I enlarged the photos a bit, but you still can't see much. If the car was local, I'd love to check it out in person. Here's part of what he's saying about the car. this was a end of year car that the factory put together. it is a true ram air car only a few of these new yorkers. not a standard car yes we have the build sheet have original motor and trans the original carbs and linkage got lost when motor was tore down orinigal exhaust manifolds were cracked so we had to replace them

Extreme Veteran Posts: 531 Location: Park Hills, KY | Apparently they installed the 1961 dash pad as well late in 1960??

Location: Under the X in Texas | The dashpad is not a fair criticism. The '60 dashpads were known to shrink and crack very early on. Innumerable '60 owners changed the dashpads to the '61-62 type which lasted exponentially longer due to the simple design change of adding the "pleated" appearance. Until reproductions of the '60 pad became available probably half of the restored 300Fs in the two clubs had received the later pads.

Expert Posts: 1223 Location: Ramona, CA | Very true on the dash pad. It does have a later instrument cluster and a 1962 radio but the rest of the dash trim is 1960. It's definitely been around the block a few times. And I wonder what the second mirror control is for?

Board Moderator & Exner Expert 10K+ Posts: 13042 Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island | The picture is very unsharp, but it looks like someone installed the 150 mph speedometer as well. Aint no way that this is a factory mounted cross ram engine. I know that money talks and that you really could order next to whatever if you paid enough, but Chrysler would for sure mount the correct inner fenders with cut outs if a car was delivered with the cross ram engine. The TorqueFlite is also special for the 300 cars....

Elite Veteran Posts: 769 Location: Oley, PA | I have to say I am naturally skeptical about these things, but the seller claims to have documentation. I may seriously follow up on this. While there are several things that point to it being not-original, good documentation may tell another tale. If it truly WAS legit, it would be one cool ride. Overall, the body looks reasonably solid except for the buggered up quarter. The car looks pretty well worn out though. The TorqueFlite is also special for the 300 cars.... I agree that if Chrysler had done it, they would have done it right. Especially on a late car. It's not totally unrealistic that they could have built one. They did an A/C 4-speed 300F and a 4-speed convertible after all. This would have been much simpler. I could see someone wanting the ram engine but not the interior of the 300F. But until there is proof, it is just the guy's word, especially the state that the car is in now. If it's not original, it's big money for that car. You could get a similar 300F for that.

Elite Veteran Posts: 836 Location: Layton, Utah | Should have 12" brakes instead of 11". Trans fill tube is different. There are a few minor things also like a bracket on by the master cylinder area for the brake line (I was told that by Sean Machado but have not verified which one yet). The fender well cut outs that unbolt. The transmission was programmed (valve body) different. I'm sure I am missing a few items. That would be one of a kind if it was one. Just looking at the car I'd say its been added because it looks modified and teenagerized in other areas. Also looks like the wrong carbs, should be Carter 2903S's. They look like Carter AVS's. It does have the awesome roof stainless though. I'm glad they didn't steal the other awesome stainless ideas from DeSoto !!! Chrysler lives !!!

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9604 Location: So. Cal | "doesn't have the original carbs, air cleaners, linkage or exhaust manifolds. I don't see the access panels.." Because of this, I would consider this non-original until it can be proven otherwise. It is just too convenient to be missing all of these things. Most people would keep the manifolds around even if they were cracked. And why would anyone ditch the linkage??? Doesn't make sense. To not have anything tells me he never had them in the first place.

Expert Posts: 1223 Location: Ramona, CA | I got this info from someone on another forum:
Nick, I see the 1960 New Yorker CL ad is on forward look. I am having login problems there. Can you tell the folks I have looked at that car in person. Not a ram car, has a 65 413 and aluminum 727. Been around the world a few times, seller has no clue. The interior has been painted that ugly blue, but open the glove box and the original blue is there. I own ram cars and I know what I am looking at. As you know, many unique parts on a real ram car, none of them are there.

Elite Veteran Posts: 769 Location: Oley, PA | I exchanged a few messages with the owner and his wife. He seems to be a nice enough guy and seems to believe that it is an original ram car. That being said, he does not have any documentation whatsoever to support that. He says he has a very poor photo copy of the IBM punch card, but it apparently it's of no help to confirm. I asked him to email a copy, but he never did. I'm guessing it's possible that he was told it was an original ram car by the previous owner when he bought it in 1978. He says the original engine was removed and in parts in the trunk when he got the car and that the car sat this way for several years and that is when some of the original parts disappeared. He does claim to still have the original engine, but it's missing many of the key parts as described. Everything being what it is, I'm not interested. Other than his word, all other signs point to it NOT being an original ram car. Too bad... It's nice to dream that a badass holy grail of New Yorkers exists somewhere.
