| Hi, Gang,
I have a slipping a/c clutch on my '59 Imperial. It has the original V-style compressor with the large clutch. Several people have told me that the smaller diameter clutch used in '61 forward will fit this compressor and work fine with a shorter belt. Several vendors have been reluctant to sell the smaller clutch for fitment reasons. I am pretty sure I am correct that a double pulley clutch from an RV2 compressor will work, but I'd like to know if I am correct before buying. I intend to have my big clutch rebuilt, but as we are in a/c season, I'd like not to go without it while waiting for the rebuild.
Thanks!

The compressor, itself, is interchangeable all the way up to '65 so it's safe to assume the clutches will interchange. Only problem might be for/aft belt alignment. |

Location: Ontario, Canada | I'm sure this will spark debate but the large clutches are wonderful and run quietly. They dampen the vibration and mechanical noise of the compressor. The small clutches make these compressors sound like "meat grinders" !
Just a thought.

| If I could find a rebuilt large clutch that would be ideal. This car has none of the familiar belt slap with the larger clutch. I plan to have mine rebuilt but wanted to use the a/c in the interim. |
