The window trimmings are in the process of being removed. I am not doing this part I am letting my dad do this part. Here are some photos. I got to purchase roof rail and door w/s but my car payment and other notes will come 1st before anything else. If I was still working at my last job making $7.25 /hr I would of never of bought my 2016 dodge challenger. Were I am at now I am making more I got benefits and my paycheck is directly deposited to savings and I transfer enough to checking to pay a note that is due and fill up my fuel tank. The rest stays in the savings account.

The new panels have been welded on the left front fender. It has been a hell of a journey on the car. This is the last car my dad is going to restore for me.

I have a question I hope some one here would please answer . I did a start up on my '61 and it looked like rusty water came out of the exhaust pipe . Is this normal? My dad plans to pull the motor and tear it down and put new freeze plugs and what else it needs. The motor runs good but it runs rough when I step on the brakes. I was told I have a leak in the booster and will be putting a power brake booster off of later model chrysler.

When a car sits for long periods of time, any condensation (moisture) in the exhaust system will create rust in the pipes. It is normal after a start-up after long periods of not running for rusty water to come out of the tail pipes until the moisture is cleared out evaporated by the heat and expelled with exhaust pressure. Should be nothing to worry about except for rust holes that could come through the pipes but you'll be able to see and/or hear that.

I did some more sanding on the car and added rust converter to were it was needed, There has been a couple of times I have thought about calling it quits on the restoration. This has been 1 hell of a long project .

I was told that there is not much more to do on the car . Sand blasting under the car , pulling the 318 out so I can sand the engine compartment, remove the fuel tank and sand cut a piece of trunk floor were there is cancer. A new piece will be welded on and grinded , sanded primered and painted. . I wish the restoration was complete right now because I would be decorating it for the Minor Hill, TN Christmas parade.
This is how I would decorate the car fake snow on the rear window Then the viliage , fake Christmas presents in back seats , Christmas bears holding battery operated candles.
The out side will have fake snow on the roof, hood and trunk. Then the garland , battery operated Christmas lights . I would also not be surprised if I got a 1st place trophy .

I did some work on the trunk yesterday. I vacuumed out the dirt and my dad did some grinding , I had to vacuum the trunk floor again and then I applied 1 coat of rust converter . I waited 20 minuites and applied a 2nd coat. My dad will be applying the tar were it needs to go . the 1st photo is before applying the 2nd is the 1st coat and the 3rd is the 2nd coat

More sanding needs to be done on this car . Then Rust converter needs to be applied. My dad found cancer under the paint in some places . I guess it depends on were the car was located . I was told the car should be ready for paint by Spring .

I know this may sound crazy but I am going to ask any way . I wonder what the chances are of me locating the original window sticker for my '61 or does any one here fill the blank stickers I hope I am not being a royal pain to any one here. My car will be back on the road this Spring or Summer. The parts are in a room in the garage I cleaned the interior and the trunk is being repaired for paint .

I should have my '61 back on the road this Summer . The Winter the engine will be pulled and the engine compartment will be done. The car will only have short trips and that is it. I will need to get new tires for the car. My dad seen the dates on the ones that are on the car now and they are 14 years old . He used to be in the tire business now he is retired but he keeps himself busy by working on the cars.
Something tells me not to drive the car until I get newer tires on the car if the tire shop offers nitrogen I will take it

This is the beginning of the finishing stages before the paint job. It has been a long road on this car I now believe it was worth the work and effort .

It'll sure be a beauty when done... congrats for doing it, it's a long and winding road!
I had a '61 Belvedere 4 dr ex-detective plain clothes cop car in Mint Green and white about 7 yrs ago, there might be pics around here somewhere, I always liked them and wouldn't mind another, they're my favorite post '59 Mopar. Good job!

Its going to be short trips . My dad read the dates on the tires and they are old/ I will need to save for brand new tires. I am saving for the paint and clear coat also .
I will get the tires locally and get portawall wide whites for my '61 to save some cash . I have a 2016 Dodge challenger that I have to make car payments on it that is the 1 bill I pay. I am 1 month a head . If the '61 does not make the Tennessee Valley Mopar Show then the Challenger will sub for it.
I do have the '61 registered and insured but I raise my agreed value every year .

I decided my safety I will be making very short trips with '61 when it goes back on the road that means no trips to Athens for the cruise in until I get brand new tires on the car.

Looking nice Steph!
I enjoy doing all the bodywork on mine, as its great to see it in paint and see how beautiful it is. Also to see all the dents removed and then straight.

I saw what you wrote above on why your trunk lid is gray. No, your car wasn't originally gray, or else mine would be too, and that's not possible as all the factory paint on that car is brown. I even found some factory chalk marks, and there is the brown paint under them too.

To the best of my knowledge, Mopar had painted all the underside of the trunk lids that odd shiny gray, along with the original wheels too.

It has been a journey on this car. The sand blasting has just started and will continue when I get more sand for the car.
I do not trust the tires and the brakes on the car. I have thought about front disc brakes on the car for better stopping. I might end up doing that and there are times I wish I had the cash to take the car to a restoration shop and have them finish it for me.

There is still more to do . I wont be driving the car any time soon I learned the tires are almost 15 years old. I will not drive this car until brand new tires are on the wheels. The power brake booster has been removed and 1 from a later model mopar will be installed so it will be easier to get to the master cylinder so I can add brake fluid when needed . There are times I get in to 1 of those moods and want to call it quits on this car . I have folks encourage me not to that it will get there.

Here is a couple of photos I am sorry I have not done much. I have decided I do not like the brakes on this car so I will be converting to front disc brakes my previous '61 fury had front disc brakes on it

I will also ame dmit there are times I wish I grabbed a 1957 or a 1957 plymouth Belvedere or savoy 2dht instead . My dad said the body would of been a lot easier to work on . How is this for an update but the car is not going back on the road after the paint job . I do not like the way the brakes are and the tires are pretty old . When I start driving the car it will be when new tires are on and front disc brakes are on the car

I know I have not been here for a while I have been busy with work but My dad is going through the car again to make sure the cancer is gone. My plan is to get the car back on the road by this coming Spring. ( I am not getting my hopes up) . Since I am having the car repainted black the body must be perfect .

Good luck with yours . Please post some photos of the progress. I should start driving mine either this coming Spring or Summer but I am not going to until I convert to front disc brakes and put brand new tires on it . the 1s on mine are 15 years old and I am not trusting the tires on it now. Its getting close were its about ready to be painted but going over spots to make sure the cancer is gone but the drivers rocker panel needs to be sand blasted . I got to get sand for that.

I've just located several sets of NOS 35 year old bias ply whitewalls. They were stored indoors and still look pretty good to me. My tire guy was telling me old bias plys will hold up but that old radials will not? Something about the quality of rubber content. For brakes I'm going with the bigger 63 300 drum brakes.

That'll look nice. Black is my favorite color for the '61 cars....harder to keep clean, but looks great.
