Expert Posts: 2631 Location: Minor Hill, TN | I am sure it will look good but the car will not be painted until the body is smooth and perfect, I will admit I had some 2nd thoughts about repainting the car black but my dad and I talked about it and did the math and it would be cheaper to repaint the car black. I have some black paint left from my previous '61 and that will be used to paint the inside of the trunk, door , and engine compartment. I will need more to paint the body. I am not doing the primer and the painting of the car or welding of l the new metal my dad is doing this part. I am helping out with the sanding plus its helping my dad out a lot. Expert Posts: 2631 Location: Minor Hill, TN | There will be a delay I found out I need to replace my left front fender. It cannot be saved . I did put a want ad for a left front fender for my car here and face book it can also come from a belvedere or savoy it would not matter if it came off a 2 or 4 door car or wagon. I just need the part were it goes from headlight to parking light to be good and rust free. I did call dvap and they do not have 1 my dad emailed moores auto salvage and has not heard back from them. I would prefer this fender came from mid to out west Edited by 1961plymouthfury 2017-01-13 2:16 AM (WP_20170112_001.jpg) (WP_20170112_002.jpg) (WP_20170112_003.jpg) Attachments ---------------- WP_20170112_001.jpg (297KB - 435 downloads) WP_20170112_002.jpg (287KB - 435 downloads) WP_20170112_003.jpg (270KB - 432 downloads)

Expert Posts: 2631 Location: Minor Hill, TN | The passenger rear quarter panel has started the fabrication and the fitting of the panel. This is the 1st part the filling and fabrication then my part is to apply the por 15 and let that dry over night then my dad will weld the metal on . I will post photos when there is more progress. My dad will drill holes so the water can escape he did that with my other '61 that was another mistake Chrysler made on the assembly line when these forward looks were being built the other was the red dye instead of primer the photo is the 1st part of the progress Edited by 1961plymouthfury 2017-01-23 12:44 PM (WP_20170123_001.jpg) Attachments ---------------- WP_20170123_001.jpg (276KB - 449 downloads)

Expert Posts: 2631 Location: Minor Hill, TN | To day more sanding was done on the passenger rear quarter but more filler needs to be added and then more sanding. I hope someday to locate the correct day/night rear view mirror for my '61 if any one has an extra 1 please give me a shout. The 1 I have now does not work it go from day/night or vice versa. I had a chance to get a NOS 1 was too late. I am still waiting for my trunk card board kit . I sent the order out on the 23rd of last month so its been about a over a week . I ordered from Gary Goers and he has done me right in the past and I will order from Gary again. I under stand he has medical issues and I hope he fully recovers from these issues. Expert Posts: 2631 Location: Minor Hill, TN | There was more filling and sanding on the passenger rear fender panel it should be ready for primer soon then its off to do the left front fender but that will be removed off the car . It wont be back on the road yet there is still more to do. These take time I hope 1 day to do a live video on you tube but when I try I have no cell phone service in the garage. I cannot move the car because the rear tires are off and its on jack stands. My dad has got to grind the cancer from the bottom then I will get truck bedding and spray it under the car (IMG_20170404_112945.jpg) (IMG_20170404_113003.jpg) (IMG_20170404_113009.jpg) Attachments ---------------- IMG_20170404_112945.jpg (234KB - 395 downloads) IMG_20170404_113003.jpg (260KB - 381 downloads) IMG_20170404_113009.jpg (282KB - 391 downloads)

Expert Posts: 2631 Location: Minor Hill, TN | I got some more progress. I sanded off the spray can primer off the car. I also used some paint thinner for the small locations . My dad put rust converter over the surface rust to convert this to a paintable surface. The body is getting prepped for primer. I have the yellow epoxy primer which will be used 1st then the black epoxy primer after this . It has been a journey on this car but I made it so far. With 2 people working on the car it helps a lot. I am going to post some photos and if more work is done there will be more but 1st they go on my face book page. Expert Posts: 2631 Location: Minor Hill, TN | Yes it will pay off especially with 2 people working on the car. I was told to remove the spray can primer off the car before epoxy primer was applied. I got more to to remove from inside the doors trunk and hood. I can do that on my off days from work. My dad is doing the grinding to remove the car cancer. He also cut out a rusted piece and will weld a new patch . I believe I will apply POR 15 in side the metal before it is welded on. Now my front brakes are applying way too hard. I do not like the feel of it . Its like the car is jerking from the front . My dad both front brakes are like that he is going to take them apart to find the problem . I even thought about converting to front disc brakes. My other '61 had front disc brakes and I never had that problem. I figured it was because this '61 sat for a while but it could not be helped it was on jack stands for a while . When I started car once a month I would move it back and forth ( the car was not on jack stands)

Expert Posts: 2631 Location: Minor Hill, TN | I am now sanding off the spray can primer from in side the hood and then its the trunk. I would use paint thinner but I ran out . The sanding will need to do for the time I want to get most off by sanding then I will get some more paint thinner and take the rest off that way. The left front fender was removed . It was grinded , sanded and wirebrushed and por 15 will be added . Expert Posts: 2631 Location: Minor Hill, TN | More work has been done on the left front fender. It has been a hell of a journey. A rusted piece was cut out and new metal was welded and grinded and the glass bondo was applied. I got to get more por 15. I am about out . I even got myself a birthday present a 2016 Dodge Challenger. It was time for my monte carlo to go down the road. I am getting a lot of OT were I work at (short of help) I told them I was available on my off days.
