Hi all. Just picked up a bunch of parts for my 55 Plymouth and there was a body tag in with it. Wonder if anyone can help me decode it? It reads; 805. 115226. Briggs Mfg.Co Detroit Mich. Thanks in advance -Colin.

805. 115226. Briggs Mfg.Co Detroit Mich

Briggs was a body builder for a number of auto companies from the 1920's until Chrysler purchased the American body operations of Briggs in late 1953. Not sure what year the tag is from, but it is probably from a body built before 1954.

Briggs supplied bodies for US-built Plymouths assembled in Detroit and Evansville (starting with 1936 models), with body plants in both cities. The Evansville body plant was not large enough to supply all body needs and had to ship bodies from the Mack Avenue plant. Shipping bodies from the body plant to the assembly plant was usually by truck.

The "805" is for the series and body style, while the "115226" is the serial number for that body. Do not have much information on the body codes before 1957, but in 1957 the body codes for 4 door sedans were Plaza - 101, Savoy - 201, and Belvedere 301. Fury hardtop was 404.

Thanks Bill. Was wondering if the 805 code could identify what type of vehicle it came from, but I guess I'll have to leave it at that. Thanks!
