I have a new to me 1956 Dodge Custom Royal D-500. Currently is on some ancient Sears white-wall balloon bias ply tires on the original rims. I have decided to go with radials (235/75/15) with a narrow white wall. (I understand that I will need an alignment with less (more?) toe-in/out when I get to that point. I was thinking of buying American Racing Torq Thrusts for the car but they are a bit spendy for me. As it happens, I bumped into a set of 15 x 7J Mopar cop wheels at the Monroe, WA swap meet last weekend for decent money. With dog dish caps (not the true cop dog dishes - same shape but no holes). I got my friendly tire shop to mount a new 235/75/15 on one of the cop wheels so I could check clearances. Looks fine at the front - but I had to trim the rear fender inner lip down by about 3/4" to get about 1/2" clearance for the fat part of the tire.

Here is a bad "photoshop" (Paint) mock-up of what the wheels might look like. I have the 12" nominal (actually something like 13.5" diameter) D-500 drums to show off so I like the slots in the cop wheels. Anyway, thought I would share (and see how many haters there are) (The mock up wheel photos were taken from photos of a 1985 Dodge Diplomat detective's car I found on the internet).

I think they would look great with wide whites. They can add them to the black wall side of your tires

I like the dog dish look. I would probaby paint the new wheels the darker blue color, and weld 1/2" OD pipe to the nubs on the wheels so that you can mount the older style dog dish caps. Then run with the original '56 Dodge poverty caps like these. Sorry I don't have a bigger picture. You can also use a thin trim ring to highlight the wheel a little more if you like.

I have only seen one 56 Dodge dog dish poverty cap on ebay (recently - but I can't find it now) so finding a set of 4 might be a challenge.

I was thinking of painting the outer portion of the wheels silver and the inners either the dark blue (metallic) or a gunmetal grey. The two drums that I have painted, I did in caliper paint silver.

The ones that came with the cop car wheels are like those shown below (no holes like the proper cop car dog dishes)

Well I guess I am not the only one who thinks that the Dodge Diplomat cop wheels look good on a classic Mopar or any Mopar.

So as planned, I had new tires (235/75/15 mini-van radials) installed on my bargain find ($200 for the 4 with dog dishes) cop car wheels. Now the question is what colour should I paint the 12" Chrysler brake drums? I've got the left side ones painted Tremclad aluminum. The right side hasn't been touched. Either I paint them aluminum too or I paint them semi-gloss black and then paint the left side ones semi-gloss black. Not sure which way to go.

Left side:

Right side at the moment (dog dishes not installed):
