My new toy just arrived a few weeks ago, and I can't believe how amazing this ride is! It has Factory A/C, Factory Rear Defrost, Factory Air Ride Leveling compressor (Never knew this existed on a sedan), Factory Power Windows, Seats, Steering and Brakes, Speed Minder, Window Washer, Dual Front and Rear speakers, and working clock! I could go on and on about how great this car is, but I won't bore you with the details. Just check out the pics for yourself.

Fantastic - the car seems to be in extremely good conditions - Contact Chrysler historical and get the IBM card and confirmation of all the options.

Unreal, you sound proud, and so you should, what a ripper.

What is the story on this car, I think I have seen pics of it before.

Gorgeous automobile. Where did they manage to install the air compressor in that loaded engine compartment ? The dealer back in 1959 must have had a big smile when taking the order

The full name of this option is Co-Pilot Speed Minder. There's a small dial next to the speedometer that allows you to set it to a certain speed. When you exceed that speed, a red light flashes on the dash to let you know you are exceeding your set speed.
You can see the dial to the right of the speedometer in this pic.

Yup, from what I've seen so far, it appears all original with about 46,000 miles. It's been repainted, to the factory original, but that's about it. There was a little oil leaking out of the back of the valve covers, so I had the gaskets replaced, and it looked like those screws have never been removed from the covers and the gasket looked original.

FIN ME,
I'm not sure about the trunk mat, because I thought they originally had a plaid design, but this one is custom-fit to the trunk, so it could be original.
Thanks for asking!

IMP58ALPES,
The Air Compressor is on the lower left side below the fuel pump. I'll try to get some pics soon. There's like 5 belts on this thing! It's the last belt in the series and needs replaced. I think this option was called Level Flite Torsion Aire Suspension, but I'm still trying to find out more about it. If anyone has a link about this feature, let me know.
Thanks,
DPOLARA

OMG! I just found the 1959 Dodge Custom Royal that I sold 12 years ago. What was I thinking, buying another one of Exner's creations. Is this some sort of sickness? If so, I sure don't want to be cured.

No its not a sickness I will admit I had 3 Virgil Exner cars
1 was a '57 plymouth Savoy with a 301 powerflite transmission I had from 1985-1987 ( totaled in '87)
2. Was my black '61 fury I owned from 2011-2014 destroyed by fire because of some one's careless ness
3. red and white '61 currently being restored
Its a love for these cars that is all The '57 plymouth had 1 of those loud car stereo systems in it . I bought the car when I was 20 years old. I had a love for these cars since then

Fender skirts? Yeah, I gots dem too - plus curb feelers! These pictures were taken the day the car arrived on an enclosed trailer. The skirts and feelers were on the car then but only long enough for me to get the car in the garage and take them off never to be on the car again since I have owned it. I still have them and will go with the car should I ever sell it.

On the 1959 Imperial documentation, the salesman booklet called it "True-Level Torsion-Aire".

Yup, it took me 12 years to find one this complete and loaded. Keep wishing and hunting. That's what makes this so fun! But be careful what you wish for, though, it might just come true.

DPOLARA

Thank you. The car is much like yours - 100% factory original with one repaint in the factory colors. It has only 23,000 miles but not loaded like yours. No A/C or other out of the ordinary options. I did put wire wheels on it but kept the originals. The paint is like you see it in the pictures and I get compliments all the time even though it is a single stage paint - no base coat/clear coat.

What's the history behind this car ? Where did you find it ?

I'm still in the fact-finding process of gathering the backstory about this car. (I've heard some rumors about it, but I'm after the facts I've ordered build tag info from the Chrysler Historical Services. I found it for sale by a consignment shop in North Carolina. Sounds like it came from a private collection out of Florida about a year ago. I don't have many details yet, but my mechanic and I can't get over the fact that this thing appears mostly original and was very well taken care of.
Thanks for the feedback!

Your trunk mat sure is original and you can compare it to mine in my '59 DeSoto. I can't tell if yours is embossed with lettering but DESOTO is embossed right into the mat on mine.

Ok, So I got my check returned back to me from Fiat Chrysler Automobile Historical Archives stating that they are re-doing their archive systems and to try again in January. So, with that said, can someone tell me where I might find the original Broadcast sheet for this car? Where did they hide them?

Thanks in advance!

So, if I'm reading this correctly, it was originally all black? AA PAINT = Black roof and body? 1 STYLE = Monochromatic? Any other comments or decoding help on this Broadcast sheet are welcome.

I'm going to post this to the Broadcast Decoder Thread. So feel free to follow all the exciting action over there

What I personally find interesting is that the upholstery fabric on the seats is the same as the fabric that was used on all the Canadian built Custom Royals for 1959. This fabric was not used on the US built Custom Royal Hardtops or convertibles, but obviously was used on the US built sedans.

Fully loaded, an absolute rarity. There is nothing to "upgrade" - sure? With two Knight Emblems on the front fender your car could get the attribute "Lancer". But then it is not Original!

61_Imperial: Yup, it's missing Swivel Seats (but it does have power bench seat), Automatic headlight beam dimmer and it's completely missing the mirrors on both fenders. So, not fully, fully loaded; but still, pretty loaded. The Broadcast sheet shows that it should have the mirrors, so not sure what happened there. It's an enigma wrapped in a mystery. The answer is out there somewhere. Still searching!

If anyone knows what happened to that car I would really appreciate knowing its fate... good or bad.
