I got myself a bit confused with the torqueflight numbering

I think 727 is alloy case, but then there is 904 (I think the same as 727, but cast iron)

Anyway, would or does a 1960 trans off a poly fit a 58 dodge that would have a 350 in it?

The guts of these transmissions at least would be the same?

Cheers

The 727 is an alloy case which was first used in 62 and later. The 904 is also an alloy case but a lighter duty used behind the slant 6 and small V-8s, I believe from 60 and later.
The cast iron Torquflite, used from 57 to 61 has a removable bell housing so it will fit either the poly, hemi or the big block with the right housing. The early ones, 57 were air cooled. Internally, they are built progressively heavier depending on which engine they were originally made for.

Both the 904 (introduced in 1960) and the 727 (introduced in 1962) have aluminum cases with integral bellhousings.

The earlier Torqueflite had an iron case with a separate bellhousing so swapping bellhousings from one type block to another makes them interchangeable.

Hola Mick

To answer your question --- The 1960 Transmission and its 1960 Torque Convertor from the 1960 "poly" can be used with the 350 engine as soon as you bolt a 1958 to 1961 350/ 361/ 383 or 413 Car Bell Housing to it.

grunau - 2017-01-02 7:31 AM Hi Sorry, but I'm sure its A-466

That will teach me to cut and paste from a bogus website.

Thanks for the correction.

Don't feel bad, you'll see some usually-reputable websites refer to them as the A-488.
