Extreme Veteran Posts: 395 Location: upstate new york | Hey Fellow Forward Lookers, Where would you buy plugs, wires, distributor cap, points etc...to tune-up your car??? Are these NAPA items or what are other recommended sources? I now have the spark plug covers so i need the correct length spark plug wires...any preferred recommendations would be appreciated... thanks, billy | ||

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9604 Location: So. Cal | I would recommend that you seriously consider upgrading to electronic ignition. I don't miss messing with points and I really enjoy the hotter spark. Just makes the old car experience a lot nicer. | ||

Elite Veteran Posts: 888 Location: Peoples Republic of Oregon | I agree with PowerFlite, unless you are doing a restoration the Mopar electronic ign is hard to beat. Unlike some of the 'specialty' ignitions the Mopar parts are available everywhere if you ever needed something. For plug wire, I have a couple sets of 7mm available and I'll sell just the wire if you want to install your own clips. I also have a couple spools of 8mm if you want something a little fatter. | ||

Extreme Veteran Posts: 520 Location: Colorado Springs, Colorado | I did the mopar performance small block distributor with the hot heads extender, its worked quite well. That said there is a pertronix insert if you want to keep your original distributor or there are HEI conversions for it as well. 7mm wire will work with the original ceramic spark plug insulators. 8mm is too big. Regular Posts: 65 | My 2 cents as well, my four cars run with their points as well. However, if there should be issues on the road, they can be fiddled with to get them running again. Even if they're tough to access, it beats walking for replacement parts. | ||

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9604 Location: So. Cal | Yep, and if you drive the car a lot, you will be fiddling with them a lot. Whereas, with electronic ignition, you put it in and forget about it. And enjoy easy starts, a better running motor and cleaner plugs the entire time you drive the car. An electronic ignition upgrade is literally the first thing I do when I get a new project car. I ran my old cars with points for many years, but I don't miss them. | ||
