I could use some help decoding the data plate on the 57 Belvedere I just picked up. Here's the info on the data plate.

SG   EW   M1   M2   M3   M4   M6   SEQ NO

SQ    NO     Model    BT      PT     TR   SP
*711 8736  P313    6862   PAP   333

WCD-LA
CHRYSLER CORPORATION

The * is either a 0 or J as far as I can tell.

The Door VIN Plate is:

VEHICLE NO
26631744

Thanks for any help that you can provide.

I am just learning about these codes. With that VIN 26631744 it would appear to be an American not Canadian built Plymouth.

As for the codes, I think the first one is 0711, i.e. the scheduled date for the build was July 11. The next four numbers are likely the sequential code for your car, i.e. the one ahead of it on the line will be 8735 and the one behind it 8737. P313 = the Plymouth model. Seems to be a V8 (see below). BT = body type (sorry I don't know the Plymouth numbers) , PT = paint code. PAP seems to be a three tone with P = desert gold roof, A = sand dune white body and P = desert gold accent. TR = trim code 333 = gold cloth, according to this post: http://ccc.informe.com/forum/interior-glass-f17/1957-plymouth-inter...

Hope that helps you get going. Others will no doubt chime in with corrections and/or additional info.

The 0711 is for the scheduled build date, July 11, 1957. The 1957 models were built from September, 1956 through to September, 1957.

Model - P313 -
P - Plymouth
31 - V8
3 - Belvedere

The Trim for 333 is for gold and white, cloth and vinyl, in the list I have.

The serial number, 26,631,744, was built in Los Angeles with the sequence 26,595,001 through to 26,638,618.

Your car was the 36,744th Plymouth V8 built at Los Angeles out of 48,618 total.

Thanks for the info so far. The paint chart is very helpful. From it I see what 56D500boy is saying that for Sportone application the first letter is roof, second letter for body and third letter is Sportone so PAP is Desert Gold Roof, Body is Sand Dune White and the Sportone (accent) iis Desert Gold. That corresponds to the car. (photo below).

Does anyone know what the other codes are, the SG EW M1 M2 M3 M4 M6 , etc. I know those are options but I don't know which ones they are.

Thanks for any help you can provide. I'm really looking forward to getting into this project. Told my wife when we brought it home it made me feel ten years younger. At my age that is good. If only I could feel 50 years younger and be the age I was when I owned my first 57 Plymouth!

I know the feeling (10 yrs younger). I am "using" my new 56 Dodge Custom Royal D500 as a means of taking my mind off recovering from open heart surgery Nov. 23, 2015 (14 months and still ticking).

As for the SG EW M1 M2 M3 M4 M6, etc codes. Those are just the categories. There should be numbers underneath them to indicate which option in that category was selected for your car. Here is a photo my cowl tag:

Duh (with head slap). Thanks for being so polite in pointing out my stupidity. There is a 4 under the SG. Nothing else under the other categories. The car is (or was) a Torqueflite car, still has the PB shifter. No power steering, power seats, etc. so is the SG4 code for the Torqueflite transmission?

Glad you're recovering from your surgery. That's a big one to have behind you. Probably makes every day pretty sweet.

Where is the data plate located on a 57 Belvedere? I can find the serial # and Body # but I cannot find a data plate.
