Just wondering if anybody has added the new electronic systems to their cars, and if they work well or not? Any suggestions, pros or cons, would be appreciated! Phil | ||

Phil I'm pretty much still a noobie here but I recently converted my dual point D500 hemi distributor (IBK-4301A) using a Pertronix CH392 (or "1383") kit. Easy peasy. Not sure which kit you would need. The engine starts much quicker now and idles and runs much better. That said one of the issues with the points was my internal distributor ground wire must have been failing because it broke off during the installation of the Pertronix kit. I made a new ground from de-soldering wick because of the multiple woven strands will resist fatigue cracking of the wire. I also installed a Pertronix internal ballast Flame Thrower coil. No more need for the external ballast resistor that can cause ignition problems. Pertronix catalogue: http://pertronix.com/catalogs/pdf/ptx/2015/Pertronix2015.pdf Plymouth V8s are on page 12 (14/76). Looks like it might be a 1383 but hopefully others will chime in with a more informed answer/confirmation. | ||

Elite Veteran Posts: 1044 Location: Auckland, New Zealand. | I have installed the Pertronix system in 4 of my cars now, with the Flamethrower coil. Completely original/invisible/stock looking. Made in USA. Cheap, around $80 I think. Reliable. No more burnt out points, failing ground wire, inoperable condenser. Easy to install. (You can still keep your original points setup in a plastic bag in your glovebox if you're really worried about it failing.) I have only ever heard third party hearsay/gossip about Pertronix failing, never spoken to anybody who has actually had a single problem with a properly installed Pertronix system. Glenn. | ||

Extreme Veteran Posts: 444 Location: North of the 49th | Hi So what you're saying is that the Pertronix unit drops right in to the distributor without modification? I was under the impression that the advance/breaker plate had to be hacked up to make this fit and only the Dual Point distributor was usable for the Pertronix mod. If that's the case it ain't gonna happen.... I'm not even sure why I'm asking this...I've NEVER had any of the grief you guys are talking about .... I set up my distributors on a distributor machine and then install them etc. | ||

Veteran Posts: 236 Location: Morgan Hill, CA | I always get rid of points and install Pertronix units. Ive had one too many condensers go bad and strand me so out they go just as soon as I can. Haven't done it yet on the 57 but soon will. | ||
