Member Posts: 14 | Alright--so I've been through the forums over and over trying to reconcile something that's been bugging me, and I've turned up no definitive answers--maybe somebody has some secret knowledge. From what I gathered, the 318's in '58 Plymouths were painted silver all around--block, intake and valve covers. I recently have been in touch with the second owner of my belvedere (I'm the fourth) and he was kind enough to send some pictures of when he bought the car from he original owner--an elderly woman who let it sit as yard art for 20 + years. I've attached a picture of the engine in its (I'm about 99% certain) original form. That sure looks like Chrysler blue to me. Anyone know if ANY Plymouth, or Chrysler product, for that matter, came off the line with a blue engine in 57-58 instead of silver? Am I totally nuts to let this bother me? The engine needs a freshening up, so I'm trying to figure out that exactly I want to choose as far as color goes. That looks very close to the color that was used. I have never seen an original engine that color. (never say never) In my thread "D-500 Engine Colours?" in which I asked what the correct engine colour was for a 56 D500 was (because mine is/was blue/turquoise), StillOutThere answered: StillOutThere - 2016-10-27 4:54 PM "Turquoise" -green was a very common color among engine rebuilders for decades. Not all certainly but a high percentage. I'd look for an additional tag somewhere else on the engine - sometimes on front of a head, others on side of the block, sometimes attached to a bolt, sometimes put on with a shallow rivet or two that possibly shows the rebuilder and possibly also journal oversizes.
