Elite Veteran Posts: 1102 Location: Hayward, Calif | Hey Guys, --59 dodge-- What is supposed to hold that rear glsss upper outside moulding in place ?? The bottom side of it inserts into the seal just above the locking strip. What holds the top side where it almost sets next to the trailing edge of the roof ?? The moulding wasn't on when I got the car. No clips mentioned in the FSM or in Gary Goers catalog. Is this something I will have to make myself ?? Also found out there are no mouldings that go around that back glass on the inside of the car. Thanks, Jerry

Elite Veteran Posts: 1102 Location: Hayward, Calif | Hey Brad, That's the same info I came up with. But I did find in the 57 - 58 Chry - Imp FSM the Imp used clips for the side and upper mouldings. I found a cross sectional drawing of trailing edge of the roof where the seal, glass and moulding come together. The Imp, Chry and Dodge mouldings all clip into the seal. But that is where the similarity ends. The contour of the edge of the moulding, closest to the roof, are all different for each of the 3 cars. Then there are one piece and two piece mouldings across the top. Geeze, this is messy !! I wonder if weather stripping adhesive (or something comparable) could be used under that moulding edge nearest the roof edge. I'm not finding any mention of doing this. ........ If anyone has experience installing this moulding, it would be nice to hear from you. Thanks, Jerry

Extreme Veteran Posts: 480 Location: The Great Northwest | Jerry, Does your rear window gasket and stainless trim look like these on my 61 NYer? I don't have any better close ups from when it was exposed so I hope this is large enough for you to tell. If yours is different, would you post a picture. Elite Veteran Posts: 1102 Location: Hayward, Calif | Arland, Thanks for the pics. I don't have any close up pics at the moment. As soon as the upholstery shop is done with the headliner, will have the glass guy come and install frt & rear. The upholstery guy reassured me the glass guy could take care of all this. Thinking of taking pics while he is doing that. Back to your question,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,This is a 2dr sedan and the moulding is different than your 4dr hdtp. The top moulding is one piece. The side mouldings go up and around the top corner and extend about 4 - 5" past the corner and interlock with the top moulding. The top and side mouldings insert into that little groove in the seal and it then covers most of the seal, including that seal locking part ( for lack of better word description) Memory of how it goes back together gets a little fuzzy after 6yrs. I found the 57 - 58 Chry FSM to have much better illustrations than the Dodge FSM. Jerry

Elite Veteran Posts: 1102 Location: Hayward, Calif | That's what it looks like on this car too. 59 Dodge 2dr sedan. The FSM shows putting a string inside that lip and pulling it out when installing moulding. Very weak info on the 'what to do and how to do'. I'l let you guys know happens when I get to this. My other thought was to try to put a slight amount of weatherstrip adhesive inside that lip. That lip is pretty small, so it doesn't give much to work with, beside having to deal with curved ends. Board Moderator & Exner Expert 10K+ Location: .Norfolk..Mafia.. ,England UK | Just put the trim back on my 59 Dodge 2dr HT rear glass,, There is No clips, the chrome trim goes into the rubber and when fully home the outer leaning edge of the chrome lips very minutely over the rubber , when fitted it is very tight so will not just slip out..
