Location: The Mile High City | Nice, John! It looks like a great car. I think Dodge started with 1001 (all models and body styles)...so this is the 1,946th Dodge to roll off the line in 1958 from the Hamtramck plant. That is early! The images look like it may have come from Freeman's.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 509 Location: Whetstone, Arizona | Got another question...i've not owned a wagon in over 30 years....were the engines painted blue?...it is the 350 in there as i asked for a photo of the stamp pad says L-350...but my other 350's were black on the valve covers

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9654 Location: So. Cal | Blue? I've never heard of that. All '58 motors should be silver (some parts gold for 300, Adventurer or Fury). Big blocks in '58 Desoto's and Custom Royals are definitely silver. Would they change the color for wagons? I don't think so. I would think your motor should look like this picture. Great project, by the way. Looks like you and I share the same mopar condition. Expert 5K+ Posts: 9900 Location: Lower Mainland BC | I asked a question months ago about my blue 56 D500 315 hemi engine. Consensus was a) it left the factory silver and b) rebuilders liked to use blue paint of some sort for reasons not made clear to me. Conclusion was my engine had been rebuilt at some point.

I think Dodge started with 1001 (all models and body styles)...so this is the 1,946th Dodge to roll off the line in 1958 from the Hamtramck plant. That is early! I need to correct myself and note that this particular 1958 Dodge probably rolled off the line in 1957. I should have wrote "...this is the 1,946th 1958 Dodge to roll off the line in 1957..." Nonetheless, it is a really cool wagon, John. I had a very early production Royal Lancer coupe and it originally had / has 1957 seat fabric! I have dreamed a long time about getting a 1958 Dodge Suburban. Few and far between...

Extreme Veteran Posts: 509 Location: Whetstone, Arizona | I love my 57's...but i just seem to think the 58 Dodge wagons looked so much better ..either way, glad i got one at last... I'll check my 58 Custom Royal 4dr ht tonight...im pretty sure it has a silver block and black valve covers, this car is a 1 owner and never been touched...even the seats are like brand new!!
