I have a 56 Ply 277 engine I want to put a alternator in and take out the generator.
Can some one tell me the one I should use. Yes I know I will have to make a bracket
for it no problem
Thanks Alex

Depends on what you want. I used the Rotton Leonard "Stealth" alternator in my '56 Savoy because it looks like a generator. It can put out 75 amps short term and 45 amps continuous. If you want something newer, you can use a GM version. Some require a charge light to run and others don't. I guess the easiest is the GM one wire, but I don't really like putting that in my car.

I like that this unit has the provision for the '56 Plymouth idiot light. Thanks for sharing Nathan, I think I may go with this unit in my car.

There is also the Powergen that is very similar, but that one costs more than double what this one does.

I had planned to remove my old generator tag and mount it on here, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. There is this guy in Poland that will sell you a new tag and stamp it for you too, if you ask him. I think he also has the rivets if you want them too, and there are other people that can sell them to you.
