Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and was wondering if someone could help me with decoding my cowl tag for my 1950 Plymouth Sport Fury? The VIN is M29410311 and I'll attach an image of the tag. Thanks!

SCHED = Scheduled date, first 2 are the build month and last 2 are the day = 0702 to be built on July 2nd (July 1959?)

No. = 3271 (probably a sequence number)

Model = MP2P "The 1959 models ushered in a new serial numbering system, the second in as many years. Adopted corporate-wide, the system used ten digits. The first digit was the code letter "M," signifying the 1959 model year. P = Plymouth The second numeral, using "1" for 6-cylinders and "2" for V-8s, indicated the type of engine (but did not designate which V-8 was installed). The third number in the sequence indicated model series, "3" signified Savoy, "5" Belvedere, "6" Fury, "7" station wagons (without designating series or differentiating between two- or four-door wagons). The fourth numeral indicated assembly plant, using "3" for Evansville, "4" for Los Angeles, "5" for Newark, "6" for Detroit, and "8" for Valley Park (St. Louis). The remaining six digits-all numerals-made up the sequential serial number, all beginning at 100,001."

And MODEL = M, 1959 / P, Plymouth. After that is a 1 (6 cylinder) or 2 (8 cylinder)
Then there is another letter, L = Savoy, M = Belvedere, H = Fury, P = Sport Fury

Ref: http://59sportfury.net/59forum/viewtopic.php?t=1775

BT = Body type, all the different body types, models and engines has different numbers. 292 means Fury, V8, Sport 2 door hardtop.

TR = Trim, interior. This code tells you what colour the bolster and seat were in all cars. Trim code = 347 = 347: Red

PT = Paint = AA = Jet Black on Jet Black

Another example:

VIN breakdown:
M295103368

M: 1959
2: Plymouth, V8
9: Sport Fury
5: Build in Newark
103368: 3368th build Sport Fury in Newark

Date - 0416: build 16th of April 1959
Bdy (body) 292: Sport Fury hardtop
Pnt (paint) XA1: Iceberg white top and Jet black body
Trm (interior trim) 347: Red

Option codes:
293: torqueflite 3 speed automatic
301: power steering
403: remote control mirror (deluxe) with matching passenger side mirror

Thank you very much for the information. It looks like the car has it's original colors then as the car is black on black with red interior. Thanks again!

Good job on that. I trust my "Reference" links were enough to show that I hadn't done the work, just brought the results back here for the original poster (I wasn't claiming credit for the work).

Thanks! No problem on the post, link or anything.
I'm just happy my post can help other forward lookers!

It wasn't sarcasm or something. I just think it's awesome. We are all here to help each other and that's why I posted all that stuff on the 59 P forum
