This is for my 56 Dodge 12V V8 automatic (neutral interlock switch). But was also used on 56-58 Plymouths, 56-58 Dodges and 57-58 Desotos according to the info that I have.

Back in the day it crossed to an SAE-4002, four lug, grounded, 12V starter solenoid. The issue is minor but important: The holes in the mounting bracket need to be 2 9/16" C to C, not the much easier to find 2 13/64" C to C varieties that I currently (pun not intended) have.

If you're gonna use a NSS, you want an insulated solenoid not a grounded one.

Thanks. You're right. I guess I meant one with an external ground wire, i.e. lug for the neutral safety switch.

I kept looking last night and found and bought this:

Cole Hersee - Insulated Intermittent Duty SPST Solenoid 12V - 24023

(It is supposed to have the requisite 2 9/16" mounting hole spacing)

Time will tell.

Just picked that Cole Hersee 24023 up this AM. Definitely wide enough ears/feet. It will bolt on properly to my 56 Dodge drivers side fender liner and make me happy (okay, less grumpy).
