While cruising through Branson this evening, I saw a parking lot full of police vehicles they were preparing for a parade . One is a 1959 Dodge Missouri Highway Patrol car. Looks really sharp in blue and white - far different from today's standards. In the photo with the license plate frame, you will see CON JOB. This car was actually restored by inmates at the state prison in Jefferson City, MO - hence CON JOB.

Nice restoration.

I wonder how much that siren affected top speed. LOL.

And it is a colour combo match (sort of) for the 2dr D500 in this thread:

Yes, It is a 59 Coronet Police car. under the hood is the 383 D-500 engine. Someone added an alternator, and the seats aren't correct.. but overall it seems to be a nicely restored car. I have become friends with one of the troopers there, that drove that car recently, Terry.
He sent me a slew of pictures of it for my restoration on my '57.

The 57 Posted is my MHP car. It is a 57 D-500 two door sedan.

I am surprised to see a 2-door hardtop police car. Neato! I assume that must be highly unusual.

In retrospect, it's puzzling that any law enforcement agency used 2-doors. Not a good design for carrying prisoners.

It's harder to load and unload them, but much easier to control. They have no separate exit available to them. When they switched to 4drs, they had to remove the inner door handles & window cranks.

This is Mr. Fay's '61 Polara police car. He has '56 Dodge caps on his. Not sure if this is what it originally came with. But he pointed out that the Polara in the old photo above is likely a movie car because it is using Polara side trim. The police cars used Dart side trim on them. So that's a good point. Nevertheless, the Dart above that picture is using the Plymouth caps too, not the Dodge caps.

Turns out that the Polara police car with Polara trim is pulled directly from the Orange County Sheriff's Department website. So that's a real car shown there. Here is another picture from it. So it looks like the '61 Dodge could have come with either cap.

AFAIK there were no full wheel covers for 15" wheels. All cop cars had 15" wheels.

Do you know which department these are from? It's interesting that they painted the hoods white and it looks like they are using Plymouth poverty caps.

I think this is the only picture I've seen of a '56 Dodge using the later, larger dog dish caps. The parts book is cryptic about it, saying that they were only used on 6-cylinder cars, which doesn't make much sense to me.

Here is a better image of a 56 Dodge Pursuit advert plus some 56 Dodge cop cars with dog dishes.

Note the rear fender logo = Dodge, not Coronet.

Thanks a lot for the high-resolution pictures, Dave. Now I can see that they look like the standard, early dog dish cap, but there is a painted ring around them on the rim for some reason.
