Got these NOS Mopar 1843248 lower ball joints for my car. These should be the same as what my 1957 Fireflite came with new. There is no grease in them yet but I still can't believe they would start out so loose. The guy I bought them from (who I trust) says:

"Chrysler ball joints are allowed vertical looseness. After you install them they'll be fine. I ran into this a number of times as a auto tech. Chrysler joints were bad when they had excessive side play." I've read other posts that seem to say the same thing about them being designed this way.

The old ball joints I took out had no play and still take a little force to move. Not sure if I should just put the old ones back in, use the NOS Mopar, or switch to some older NOS Moog K-713's which are on the way. I'm not using anything foreign. Bought a complete kit from PST and everything was made overseas so I sent it back.

This video shows the new Mopar one rattling around.

in all my 30+ years working on cars i never came across a new loose ball joint. i had NOS mopar ball joints, they weren't loose. the uppers in my, back then, 250k mile car turned out to be good and even those, lubed, were not easy to move. there is a heavy spring inside (unlike in the new crap ball joints) that makes the ball stud adjust to wear, but only a certain amount. if you have ANY play in them, they are worn/defective.

yikes, just saw the vid, these are JUNK. or are these by any chance the rare adjustable units with a removable bottom? then they only need to be adjusted.

so why did you remove them then? this is a mistake many people do. if its still good do not touch it. the mopar OE parts are usually of excellent quality. i took new and old ball joints appart. the new ones, especially with plastic liners, are often a 2 piece design and junk. the OE ball joints, moog and other old US brands are a 3 piece design with a floating hemispherical part that can freely rotate and therefore increased durabilty.

Everything had to come apart for powder coating. I'm going to use the Moog or the original ball joints.

To me, it seems like the old trap; used worn out parts in NOS packages.

The old parts were cleaned and put back in the original cartons for future reference or other reasons. 40-50 years passed and someone found the old cartons.......

The ones in your video is totally done and should not be used.

Remount the old ones or get Moog, preferably the older ones.

It's old but NOS. I've seen a few sets and they were all the same way. I think my old lowers are going to go back in. The uppers are also NOS Mopar but they were tight.
